Apple Kicks Off Development on iOS 19 and More, Codenamed 'Luck'

The tech giant begins early work on its 2025 software lineup, including macOS 16 and watchOS 12
July 1, 2024

Just weeks after unveiling iOS 18 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), Apple is already looking ahead. According to Bloomberg, the tech giant has commenced development on iOS 19, macOS 16, watchOS 12, and visionOS 3, codenamed 'Luck', 'Cheer', 'Nepali', and 'Discovery' respectively.

Mark Gurman’s latest Power On newsletter reveals that Apple has “formally begun work on 2025’s major operating systems.” While it might seem premature given that this year’s updates haven’t been released to the public yet, this timeline aligns with Apple’s typical development cycle. The company needs to start early to ensure new software is ready for next year's hardware.

Details about the features and improvements in these upcoming software updates are still under wraps. However, Apple's consistent innovation in their operating systems suggests that exciting new capabilities are on the horizon.

By beginning development now, Apple ensures that the future iterations of iOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS are thoroughly tested and refined, ready to enhance the user experience across their devices. Stay tuned for more updates as Apple continues to push the boundaries of technology with its forthcoming software lineup.
