In Yorkshire, a Sustainability Festival of Events Takes Place in July

From July 3rd to July 7th, Yorkshire focuses on sustainability

In Yorkshire, Northern England, sustainability will flourish throughout a week packed with events this July. The festival of events strives to promote the idea that every business should begin its sustainability journey somewhere. Yorkshire Sustainability Week will cover various sustainability aspects, including energy, water, construction, food, retail, healthcare, and living.

“The sustainability community in Yorkshire is still in its infancy, with many sustainability events happening in silo’s. We want to create a platform that allows all of the fantastic businesses across Yorkshire making serious change happen to come together and learn from each other. It’s an extremely exciting time to be creating an event which is purposefully built to support this community to reach ambitious goals. There is no doubt in my mind that we are on the precipice of a green revolution,”

- outlines the founder of YSW and Managing Director of The Secret Event Service, Kate Hutchinson.

The series of events, scheduled to occur from July 3 to July 7, 2023, will include a two-day conference on July 4 and 5. In the tone of the festival’s topic, the organizers have pledged to make the festival carbon-neutral. Additionally, headline sponsors of the festival of sustainability events are Leeds City Council and the University of Leeds.

“At the University of Leeds, our interdisciplinary research collaborations link our physical, technological, economic, and social understanding of climate change and sustainability, creating solutions to address this global crisis. We are committed to embedding sustainability in everything we do, taking responsibility for our economic, cultural, social, and environmental impacts. We are thrilled to be joint headline sponsors of Yorkshire Sustainability Week and to help highlight the opportunities that embracing sustainability initiatives can bring,”

- comments Professor Nick Plant, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research and Innovation at the University of Leeds.

During this week, various events will take place across the country to highlight the commendable efforts being made to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. The main conference, spanning two days, will be held at Cloth Hall Court and will be complemented by other events such as Pitch it Green, where new businesses can pitch their ideas to potential investors, The Big Green Gathering, and The Secret Business Lunch. Furthermore, Yorkshire businesses are encouraged to organize their own sustainability events to contribute to the region's collective efforts toward sustainability.
