Despite a recession and declining demand for solar systems and heat pumps, 1KOMMA5° has reported a record-breaking revenue of €520 million in 2024, up from €450 million in 2023. The company's organic sales—excluding acquisitions—grew by 36%, reaching €490 million, making it the strongest growth year in its history.
Founded in 2021 and headquartered in Hamburg, 1KOMMA5° specializes in CO2-neutral energy solutions, offering services such as photovoltaics, electricity storage, heat pumps, and EV charging stations. With a network of 80 locations and 26 showrooms across multiple markets, the company continues to expand its footprint from Europe to Australia.
Looking ahead, 1KOMMA5° plans to invest €100 million over the next three years to grow its Heartbeat AI software business, which powers Europe's largest virtual power plant for residential customers. In November, the company spun off Heartbeat GmbH as a standalone subsidiary, led by CTO Barbara Wittenberg and CPO Jannik Schall, with the goal of scaling revenues to €10 billion by 2030.
The company has been expanding its smart energy management capabilities, integrating heat pumps, electricity storage, and EV wall boxes into its software ecosystem. Heartbeat AI enables dynamic electricity pricing, optimizing energy use for both cost savings and revenue generation.
Despite economic pressures, 1KOMMA5° remains operationally profitable and debt-free. CEO Philipp Schröder emphasized the company’s resilience, stating: “Even in the midst of a crisis year and in a shrinking market environment, we are growing by 36 percent. This is a great success for the entire team.”
The company has raised €400 million in equity since its inception and has not utilized an approved €100 million credit line from 2023. By maintaining financial stability while scaling operations, 1KOMMA5° has positioned itself as one of Europe's fastest-growing CleanTech startups.
1KOMMA5°’s core technology, Heartbeat AI, currently optimizes over 40,000 energy systems, creating Europe's largest virtual power plant. This network allows customers to leverage renewable energy volatility for cost-efficient electricity consumption and grid balancing.
The company has already installed over 300,000 decentralized, controllable energy systems, reducing CO2 emissions by 14 million tonnes. By 2030, its goal is to convert 1.5 million buildings to sustainable energy, contributing significantly to the Paris climate targets.
