Aethero, a startup focused on building advanced space-grade computers and autonomous satellite platforms, has closed an $8.4 million seed round. The round was led by Kindred Ventures, with support from Neo, Giant Step, O’Shaughnessy Ventures, and Alumni Ventures.
This strategic investment will help Aethero strengthen its AI-powered orbital infrastructure, designed to meet increasing demand for efficiency and security in space. While the company hasn’t disclosed a valuation, the backing signals growing investor interest in space-based computing with national defense potential.
Aethero’s mission aligns with the growing need for more responsive, autonomous systems in orbit. As countries ramp up space operations, Aethero aims to reduce reliance on human-controlled systems and bring real-time decision-making directly to satellites.
“We’re delivering a full suite of autonomous systems that will power the next generation of space operations – faster, smarter, and ready to scale,” said Edward Ge, CEO and co-founder of Aethero. “As global competition intensifies, US leadership depends on our ability to move with strategic urgency and commercial ambition in space.”
The new funding will accelerate development of Aethero’s next-generation satellite computing hardware and software. The company plans to launch two additional demonstration satellite missions to showcase its capabilities in real-world space environments.
These new platforms will serve a range of public and private sector customers by offering faster data processing, real-time decision-making, and reduced need for ground control. The ultimate goal is to support defense and intelligence missions with systems that can learn, adapt, and respond independently.
Founded in San Francisco, Aethero designs AI/ML-integrated space systems that give satellites the ability to think and act autonomously. Its space-grade computers are already enabling in-orbit activities like coordinated maneuvers and missile tracking—functions that demand split-second responses and minimal latency.
The startup’s software architecture allows customers to run mission-specific AI applications onboard satellites, improving operational flexibility and reducing data relay needs. CTO and co-founder Amit Pinnamaneni explained, “Our systems fundamentally change how data is processed and decisions are made in orbit to offer more efficiency and autonomous capabilities than traditional satellite systems.”
In addition to Kindred Ventures, the seed round was supported by Neo, Giant Step, O’Shaughnessy Ventures, and Alumni Ventures—all active investors in deep tech and frontier industries. Their backing strengthens Aethero’s position as a serious contender in the future of space defense infrastructure.
As the company prepares for its upcoming launches, this support marks a crucial step toward building scalable and intelligent space operations for national security and beyond.
