DeepIP, a New York and Paris-based startup developing AI tools for patent practitioners, has closed a $15 million Series A round. The funding was led by AI-focused firm Resonance, with additional participation from Headline (known for backing Mistral AI), Serena Capital (investors in Dataiku), and Balderton Capital.
The company plans to use the funding to expand its U.S. and European footprint and further evolve its AI product from a productivity assistant into a more autonomous system. DeepIP’s rapid growth—reaching seven figures in annual recurring revenue within seven months—has signaled strong demand in the IP legal sector.
Despite the increasing volume of global patent applications—over 3.5 million annually—the filing process remains mostly unchanged since the 1990s. Patent applications are still drafted manually, often requiring 20 to 40 hours of attorney work and carrying lifetime costs of $20K to $100K.
“There have never been as many innovations that could be protected and create more value for the entire economy. Yet, the way we manage the patents that make this possible hasn’t evolved fast enough. ,” says CEO François-Xavier Leduc. “We built DeepIP through continuous feedback loops with the 50 largest U.S. IP law firms.”
Mistakes during filing can render a patent non-defensible, making accuracy essential. Yet with limited legal talent and growing workloads, efficiency has become a major concern in the legal IP world. DeepIP’s AI platform aims to bridge that gap.
DeepIP’s AI platform supports IP lawyers in preparing, drafting, and prosecuting patents, enabling firms to cut drafting time by up to 50%. So far, the company has assisted with 8,500 applications, giving lawyers back approximately two hours per day.
Unlike generic AI tools, DeepIP is built with the legal practitioner in mind. It analyzes previous patent applications to replicate the tone and style of individual attorneys or their clients—a feature vital for firms with specific language requirements.
The platform is also fully integrated into Microsoft Word, allowing legal teams to continue using their existing workflows. With strict privacy safeguards—such as zero data retention, GDPR compliance, and SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certifications—DeepIP ensures data confidentiality and legal-grade reliability.
Founded in 2024 by François-Xavier Leduc (CEO) and Edouard d'Archimbaud (CTO), DeepIP leverages years of experience building secure AI solutions for organizations like Airbus, IBM, and SAP. The team combines AI engineers from top institutions with patent attorneys based in NYC, DC, and Paris.
“The product-market fit was almost immediate," Leduc explains. “As one customer put it: ‘If you don’t buy this for the firm, I will go buy it myself.’” The company positions itself as an AI assistant—not a replacement—for patent professionals, enhancing their work rather than replacing it.
DeepIP estimates the global IP law services market at $42 billion, with a $1.3 billion immediately addressable segment. Its AI-first approach to intellectual property has attracted high-profile backers with deep expertise in data and enterprise tech.
"DeepIP is the fastest startup I’ve ever seen reach 7 figures in ARR in 7 months!" said Maxime Le Dantec of Resonance. "I’m convinced that DeepIP will become an essential part of every IP law firm’s operations."
