Anrok has closed a $55 million Series C funding round led by Spark Capital, with participation from Sapphire Ventures and existing investors Khosla Ventures, Sequoia Capital, and Index Ventures. The investment brings the San Francisco-based company's total funding to over $100 million as it works to automate sales tax compliance for digital businesses operating across borders.
The platform now serves more than 3,000 finance leaders globally. Companies including Anthropic, Cursor, and Notion use Anrok to handle tax compliance across all countries and jurisdictions where they operate, reportedly saving teams 90% of the time they would otherwise spend on sales tax tasks each month.
Anrok's client base spans the digital economy—AI companies, SaaS providers, e-commerce marketplaces, and hardware businesses. More than 40% of the Forbes AI 50 list relies on the platform for tax compliance.
The complexity these companies face increases dramatically with scale. According to Anrok's analysis of over 32 million monthly transactions, businesses filing requirements jump from 2 annual filings at under $1 million in revenue to 94 or more filings once they hit $50 million in revenue. That's a 47-fold increase. At the same time, the percentage of revenue subject to taxation more than doubles from 20% to over 51% as companies expand internationally.
"Global sales tax compliance has been broken for too long – it's one of those problems that gets exponentially harder as companies scale," said Yasmin Razavi, General Partner at Spark Capital. "Anrok has built the first solution that actually scales with modern businesses. They understand that commerce is global - you need to deeply understand local requirements to support modern commerce. We're excited to back this team as they become essential infrastructure for global businesses."
The regulatory environment keeps changing too. In the United States, state rules continue multiplying. Globally, more than 100 countries now impose VAT or GST on digital products. Manual processes can't keep up with this pace of change.
Anrok takes what it calls a hybrid approach to automation. The company uses artificial intelligence for routine tasks like document extraction and workflow automation. But it keeps tax experts and infrastructure oversight in the loop for accuracy and audit defense.
The founders—technology veterans from AI and infrastructure software—assembled a team of global tax and accounting experts who work alongside the AI systems and with customers and partners.
"Knowing our tax compliance automatically scales with our billing allows us to focus on product development without diverting engineering resources to tax complexity," said Connor Solimano, Business Operations and Strategy at Cursor.
The Series C funding will go toward accelerating product partnerships and expanding research and development investments in AI. The company plans to continue building out its global sales tax compliance automation to meet the demands of fast-growing businesses.
Anrok also intends to support market expansion efforts. The platform currently provides automated nexus monitoring, tax calculations, filing and remittance, and audit-ready reporting across more than 100 countries.
Anrok launched in 2020 with a focus on serving digital-first companies with complex business models. The platform was built specifically for modern finance teams that need to manage tax compliance as their companies scale internationally.
Michelle Valentine, CEO and co-founder, emphasized the company's focus on speed and scale. "Anrok powers compliance for some of the fastest growing AI companies worldwide," she said. "We're building the tax infrastructure that can keep up with the pace and scale of their demand, and allow customers to focus on growing their business across borders."
The company positions itself as the only solution offering full global compliance coverage across all jurisdictions and countries, combining AI automation with tax expertise to help finance teams stay compliant amid constant regulatory changes.
