Augmetec, a legal tech startup specializing in internal and regulatory investigations, has raised over £2 million in seed funding to accelerate its expansion. The round was led by UK-based early-stage venture capital firm Fuel Ventures, with participation from Swiss fund 14Peaks Capital and three high-profile angel investors. These include a retired Senior Partner at Kirkland & Ellis, the family office of NetDocuments' original founding team, and the Head of Fraud at Rajah & Tann Singapore.
This funding follows a £410K pre-seed round raised last year from Haatch Ventures and several angel investors. With this latest investment, Augmetec aims to scale its operations and enhance its technology platform to meet increasing global demand.
Investigations into ethics, compliance, and regulatory matters are often slow, costly, and inconsistent. With global enforcement intensifying, particularly under regulations like the UK Bribery Act and the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, companies are facing mounting compliance burdens. Since the 2007-2008 financial crisis, penalties for regulatory breaches have exceeded $375 billion.
Simultaneously, new whistleblower regulations and a stronger corporate "speak up" culture are driving a surge in internal and regulatory investigations. This has led organizations to seek more efficient, AI-driven solutions to streamline their processes and reduce resource strain.
With fresh capital, Augmetec plans to grow its client base and enhance its end-to-end SaaS platform, LEIAA. Designed to optimize time, cost, and precision, LEIAA provides a secure, AI-powered command center for managing complex investigations.
The company will also expand its team across engineering, compliance, operations, and sales. Augmetec aims to strengthen enterprise partnerships and further develop integrations with platforms like Relativity, iManage, NetDocuments, and Resistant AI. The goal is to establish LEIAA as the go-to platform for multinational corporations, top law firms, financial services firms, NGOs, and government bodies managing sensitive investigations.
Founded by Kritin Sundaram, a seasoned investigator with experience in high-profile fraud cases, Augmetec was built to solve industry pain points firsthand. The company's advisory board brings over 100 years of combined expertise in law, technology, and compliance.
Kritin Sundaram, Co-Founder and CEO at Augmetec, said: “Augmetec has been built on decades of experience in conducting hundreds of high profile investigations into alleged improper conduct. Our fantastic team has deep industry expertise to create specific solutions to solve precise, real-world problems. This is the backbone of LEIAA’s offering, which has been directly experienced and loved by customers worldwide.
Fuel Ventures' Partner Oliver Hammond emphasized the growing importance of internal investigations: "We’ve seen internal investigations within corporations increase significantly as regulation grows and levels of improper conduct increase. Progress in AI and automation means we think the time is now to automate and maximise the efficiency to a significant degree in that process, allowing corporations to come to conclusions quicker and more accurately. We think Augmetec is going to revolutionise this industry."
Emanuele Larocca, Principal at 14Peaks Capital, highlighted LEIAA’s ability to automate regulatory investigation workflows: "The team’s intimate understanding of investigative processes has been distilled into a fit-for-purpose software solution, leveraging a unified data architecture to consolidate siloed tasks into a cohesive, transparent and secure platform. We are convinced that both enterprise and law firms worldwide will resonate with this proposition, finding in Augmetec the ideal partner to navigate to the ever-evolving global regulatory landscape."
