Bedrock Robotics has closed a $270 million Series B funding round, bringing the autonomous construction technology company to a $1.75 billion valuation. CapitalG and the Valor Atreides AI Fund co-led the investment, with participation from Xora, 8VC, Eclipse, Emergence Capital, Perry Creek Capital, NVentures (NVIDIA's venture capital arm), Tishman Speyer, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Georgian, Incharge Capital, C4 Ventures, and others. The round pushes Bedrock's total funding past $350 million.
The company plans to use the capital to advance from deploying individual autonomous machines to coordinating entire fleets that work together as connected systems. This approach targets fundamental changes in how general contractors manage productivity and safety on job sites.
The construction sector faces a significant workforce shortage. Industry estimates suggest nearly 800,000 additional workers will be needed over the next two years just to meet current demand. Retirements continue widening the gap. Project backlogs stretched beyond eight months as of December 2025, creating bottlenecks across the industry.
Contractors are now testing Bedrock's autonomy systems across port infrastructure, industrial facilities, data centers, and large-scale earthmoving operations in multiple states. The company emerged from stealth in July 2025 with $80 million in combined Seed and Series A funding. By November, it had completed a large-scale supervised autonomy deployment for mass excavation on a 130-acre manufacturing site.
Boris Sofman, co-founder and CEO of Bedrock Robotics, noted that contractors are stretched across competing priorities with limited resources. "This funding helps us scale our development and deployments as we mature autonomy capabilities and the tools for contractors to leverage them," he said.
The new capital will fund development of fleet coordination systems that go beyond automating individual equipment. Bedrock aims to create connected networks of autonomous construction machines that can optimize operations across entire job sites.
Champion Site Prep is currently using the Bedrock Operator on a manufacturing campus in central Texas, exploring how autonomous systems could complement existing crews. The region is experiencing unprecedented construction demand driven by automotive, aerospace, and AI infrastructure projects.
Trey Taparauskas, President and CEO at Champion Site Prep, emphasized the scale of incoming projects. "What Bedrock is building will multiply what our crews are capable of. It's not just about one autonomous machine; it's the potential to rethink how we coordinate our entire fleet, keep machines running longer, reduce idle time, and improve safety and work zone awareness."
Bedrock Robotics was founded in 2024 by former Waymo engineers who helped develop the autonomous systems that enabled fully driverless vehicles on public roads. The San Francisco-based team is now applying that expertise to construction equipment, developing technology to retrofit machines like excavators, bulldozers, and loaders with autonomous capabilities.
The company recently expanded its leadership team with two notable hires. Vincent Gonguet joined as Head of Evaluation after leading AI safety and alignment at Meta for all Llama models. John Chu joined as Head of People following the same role at Waymo, where he oversaw 400% headcount growth during the company's global expansion.
Bedrock is targeting its first fully operator-less excavator deployments with customers in 2026. This would mark a significant milestone for autonomous capability in complex, articulated construction machines.
The funding comes as hundreds of billions of dollars flow into construction projects, particularly data centers and manufacturing facilities, while the available workforce remains static or shrinks.
Derek Zanutto, General Partner at CapitalG, pointed to the workforce gap. "Every major hyperscaler and developer is grappling with how to compress project schedules when labor constraints keep pushing them out," he said. "Bedrock's technology is built on world-class autonomy expertise, and we believe it will unlock the construction velocity this moment requires."
Antonio Gracias, Founder, CEO, and Chief Investment Officer of Valor Equity Partners, highlighted Bedrock's execution track record. "The companies defining the future of AI, energy, and advanced manufacturing all share a common need: they have to build faster than ever before. We're confident Bedrock is the team to make that possible."
The Series B positions Bedrock to scale both its technology development and customer deployments as contractors seek solutions to persistent labor shortages and project delays.
