Black Forest Labs has secured $300 million in Series B funding, reaching a post-money valuation of $3.25 billion. The round was co-led by Salesforce Ventures and Anjney Midha (AMP), with participation from both new and existing investors.
The company, founded last year, develops frontier AI models for image generation. Its FLUX models have quickly become the most popular image models on Hugging Face, while its enterprise offerings power production workflows across platforms like Fal.ai, Replicate, and TogetherAI. Major technology companies including Adobe, Canva, Meta, and Microsoft are already building on Black Forest Labs' technology to create new visual experiences.
Black Forest Labs describes its mission as building systems that understand intent rather than simply executing prompts. The company aims to create tools that make imagination tangible for everyone from global enterprises to independent artists.
"Tomorrow, we're looking ahead towards models that unify visual perception, generation, memory, and reasoning—laying the foundations for visual intelligence," the company stated in its announcement.
The startup operates from headquarters in Freiburg, Germany and San Francisco. Its team includes pioneers who developed latent diffusion, Stable Diffusion, and the FLUX model family.
The new capital will be used to accelerate Black Forest Labs' research and development efforts. The company is actively hiring as it works to push the boundaries of what visual AI can achieve.
While specific product roadmaps weren't disclosed, the company's focus on unifying visual perception, generation, memory, and reasoning suggests ambitious plans for more sophisticated AI systems. These next-generation models would go beyond current image generation capabilities toward what the company calls "visual intelligence."
The funding round brings together an impressive roster of investors. Alongside co-leads Salesforce Ventures and Anjney Midha (AMP), the round includes participation from Temasek, Bain Capital Ventures, Air Street Capital, Visionaries Club, Canva, and Figma Ventures.
Existing backers who deepened their investment include Andreessen Horowitz (a16z), NVIDIA, Northzone, Creandum, Earlybird Venture Capital, BroadLight Capital, and General Catalyst. The mix of strategic investors from the creative tools space (Canva, Figma Ventures) and major AI infrastructure players (NVIDIA) reflects the company's position at the intersection of creativity and artificial intelligence.
