Led by First Round, the funding round also saw participation from Y Combinator, Liquid 2, Multimodal, and others. This strategic investment will help accelerate Blaxel’s mission to build a cloud platform designed specifically for AI agents, addressing the unique challenges faced by this rapidly growing segment.
The infrastructure currently available in the market was designed with human users in mind, catering mostly to traditional applications and SaaS platforms. As AI agents grow in importance, however, there's an urgent need for a new infrastructure layer capable of handling the specific requirements of autonomous software. Blaxel aims to fill this gap, ensuring that AI agents can operate at scale, without the limitations posed by legacy cloud providers.
The rise of AI agents has fundamentally changed the software landscape. From scheduling meetings and managing emails to generating code and even creating full applications autonomously, AI agents are now doing tasks traditionally handled by human developers. However, these agents are still running on infrastructure built for human-centric applications, which presents a number of challenges.
Traditional cloud services often lack the flexibility and security required for AI agents. For instance, AI agents need to make multiple, often simultaneous, calls to large language models (LLMs) and other APIs, requiring a system that can scale and adapt quickly. Current cloud offerings are ill-equipped to handle these requirements, resulting in poor performance and escalating costs. In particular, the need for secure and efficient network architectures, fast boot times, and high resource allocation for AI agents cannot be met by the existing infrastructure designed for human-driven software.
Blaxel offers a cloud platform built specifically to meet the needs of AI agents. Unlike traditional infrastructure providers that retrofitted their systems to accommodate AI, Blaxel designed its platform from the ground up, focusing on the distinct challenges faced by AI-driven technologies.
The company’s secure sandbox environments spin up in under three seconds, ensuring that agents can operate quickly and securely. These sandboxes prevent container escapes, automatically hibernate after one second of inactivity, and allow for rapid experimentation with features like snapshots and forking. Blaxel’s intelligent gateway provides unified access to major LLMs with built-in caching, rate-limiting, and observability tools tailored for agent workflows.
Blaxel also offers serverless agent hosting, allowing businesses to deploy agents as APIs with automatic scaling based on usage. This pay-per-use pricing structure enables companies to scale efficiently without the high costs traditionally associated with infrastructure.
Blaxel's infrastructure has already been tested with leading AI agent startups. During its Y Combinator batch, the company collaborated with startups such as Human Behavior, Vybe, and Jazzberry to help them scale their AI agents. By the end of the batch, Blaxel had deployed infrastructure in 16 global regions, processing millions of agent requests daily. One customer is running over 1 billion seconds of agent runtime for millions of videos, all while reducing infrastructure costs by 50% compared to traditional serverless models.
This early success highlights how Blaxel’s platform enables AI agent companies to automate their infrastructure management, saving them from hiring expensive DevOps teams and allowing them to focus on scaling and customer acquisition.
As the shift toward agent-based computing accelerates, Gartner predicts that by 2028, 75% of application development will involve AI agents. This trend will place even more pressure on cloud providers to offer specialized infrastructure designed for autonomous systems. Blaxel is positioned to lead the charge in creating a platform that meets these needs, ensuring that AI agents can operate seamlessly, with minimal latency and maximum security.
Blaxel was co-founded by Paul Sinai, a former CEO and co-founder of ForePaaS, which was acquired by OVHcloud, Europe’s largest cloud provider. Paul saw a significant gap in the market for cloud infrastructure specifically designed for AI agents and teamed up with former colleagues from OVHcloud and ForePaaS, including Christophe Ploujoux, Nicolas Lecomte, Thomas Crochet, Charles Drappier, and Mathis Joffre, to form Blaxel. Together, this world-class team is dedicated to building what they believe will be the “AWS for AI Agent Companies.”
