Brickanta, an AI platform built for the construction industry, has raised $8 million in seed funding led by Northzone. The round attracted participation from global sports stars, founders of Lovable and Tandem Health, plus angel investors from OpenAI, Google and Meta. The Stockholm-based company closed the funding in under two weeks.
The investment will help Brickanta scale its AI platform that tackles some of construction's biggest cost drivers: bid analysis, cost estimation and procurement. These pre-construction workflows often determine whether projects succeed or spiral into expensive delays.
Construction remains a $15 trillion industry globally, yet billions are lost annually to preventable miscalculations and waste. Brickanta's platform uses real project data, industry standards and documentation to help teams spot gaps, price risk and prepare procurement packages faster than traditional methods allow.
"Since our Y Combinator launch in October, the pace of development has been amazing. Receiving hundreds of global inbound requests and seeing Brickanta's AI being used in real estimation and procurement workflows," says Lucas Otterling, co-founder and CEO of Brickanta. "Construction is often described as conservative, but our experience has been the opposite – the response has been fantastic. The next-generation builders are eager to embrace AI specifically built for how they actually build the physical world around us."
Brickanta has already onboarded hundreds of users across eleven countries. The platform connects with internal organizational data to deliver AI-powered gap analyses. Cost estimators report that catching just one change order with Brickanta can make the difference between a profitable project and costly overruns.
For procurement teams, the time savings are equally significant. What normally took days—generating hundreds of manual sub-packages per project—now happens in as little as 15 minutes with category-specific RFP bundles.
Founded by a team with experience applying AI in construction and industrial sectors since 2018, Brickanta aims to become the AI-native operating system for the industry. The platform's knowledge base draws from historical estimates, tender documents and project data, allowing builders to focus on execution rather than administrative complexity.
The company is now headquartered in Stockholm and plans to scale across Europe first, taking advantage of shared building standards like the Eurocodes. Since closing the round, Brickanta has quadrupled its team, expanding across engineering, product and delivery functions. The startup will maintain its Silicon Valley connections through Y Combinator, U.S. angel investors and partnerships with leading language model developers.
Northzone led the round. The global venture capital firm has backed unicorns including Spotify and Klarna, plus construction technology companies like Spacemaker, which Autodesk acquired in 2020.
"The construction industry has suffered from low productivity increases for decades, and AI might just be what changes the game," says Pär-Jörgen Pärson, Partner at Northzone. "Brickanta is building a purpose-built AI solution to address the construction industry's monumental challenge of managing complexity in planning and execution - often involving millions of mission-critical documents. We are excited to partner with real game changers like Lucas and Linus in building Brickanta."
The investor roster includes construction and real estate leaders: Johan Edenström (Newsec, Stronghold, Pejoni), Kalle Erlandsson (Erlandsson Properties, BART Ventures), Tobias Hedlund (Hitachi factory project PM, Peab), Stefan Lennhammer (Catella, Truecaller), Tom Sakofall (Sakofall) and Oliver Robsahm (SPV Group).
Tech founders and operators also joined the round: Anton Osika (Lovable), Lukas Saari and Oliver Åstrand (Tandem Health), Alfred Wahlforss (Listen Labs), Fredrik Carlsson (AI researcher at RISE), Agnes Sjöberg (Google), Erik Engellau-Nilsson (Klarna, Norrsken Launcher), Joel Wägmark (Atlar), Gabriel Petersson (OpenAI), Navid Haddad (Meta) and JJ Fiegelman (WayUp).
Global sports stars Mario Götze (German football player) and Cody Gakpo (Liverpool, Dutch national team), alongside 20VC, Y Combinator and SSE Business Lab, round out the early backers.
