Bild AI, a startup aiming to simplify construction project estimation, has secured $3.1 million in seed funding. Khosla Ventures led the round, with additional participation from Mission Street Capital, Ryan Sutton-Gee, and Ooshma Garg.
The funds will help Bild AI further develop and expand its platform, designed to automatically interpret construction blueprints, generate accurate cost estimates, and identify compliance issues. This new investment round represents a significant step forward for the company, although a specific valuation has not been disclosed.
The construction industry faces rising costs, stringent regulations, and shrinking timelines, which makes traditional manual estimation processes increasingly inefficient. Puneet Sukhija, co-founder of Bild AI, highlighted this challenge: "Local governments constantly add new regulations while old ones are never removed. Today, 10-25% of total project budgets are preconstruction costs."
Bild AI addresses these issues using artificial intelligence. Their system reads and processes construction documents, speeding up what used to take days into just hours. According to the company, this has resulted in a 20-fold increase in efficiency, allowing multiple construction firms to meet critical deadlines they might have otherwise missed.
The newly raised funds will primarily support further technology development and market expansion efforts. Specifically, Bild AI has launched the Openings Model, designed explicitly for Division 8 suppliers, focusing on doors and windows.
This targeted solution addresses a major bottleneck for estimators, who typically spend days manually reviewing hundreds of fragmented documents to gather specifications for doors and hardware. Bild AI’s new model automatically organizes these details and integrates seamlessly into existing ERP systems, significantly reducing manual effort and errors.
Bild AI was founded by Roop Pal and Puneet Sukhija, who met at Hack for Social Impact. Puneet's construction experience dates back to his teenage years, building homes in challenging environments, while Roop joined Google as one of its youngest engineers, specializing in AI and computer vision.
Their combined expertise has shaped Bild AI's approach, effectively addressing longstanding inefficiencies within construction estimation processes. Since its launch in February, Bild AI's platform has been utilized internationally across diverse projects, including apartment buildings, hospitals, and skyscrapers.
The company's vision and practical impact have attracted influential investors. Alongside Khosla Ventures, notable investors include Mission Street Capital, Ryan Sutton-Gee, and Ooshma Garg.
The team at Bild AI expressed gratitude for the support they've received. They remain focused on scaling their platform to further streamline construction processes and address the critical need for affordable housing and infrastructure.
