Elemental Advanced Materials has secured $20 million in funding to expand the production of clean hydrogen, high-performance carbon nanomaterials, and recovered critical minerals. The round was led by Taranis, the climate-focused investment arm of Perenco Group, through its Taranis Carbon Ventures initiative.
The new capital will support the scaling of Elemental's patented single-step process that converts waste materials—including plastics, tank sludge, and industrial gas by-products—into low-emission nanomaterials and hydrogen. The technology also enables the recovery of critical minerals from electronic waste, offering a low-carbon alternative to conventional extraction methods.
Elemental operates at the intersection of clean energy and sustainable materials, offering an alternative to legacy industrial systems. Its products, which include graphene and carbon nano-onions, are used to boost the performance and durability of batteries, electronics, composites, and cement.
“These materials not only improve thermal and electrical conductivity but also reduce the embedded emissions of the products they enhance,” said Ian Bishop, President and Co-Founder of Elemental. “This funding will allow us to deliver performance materials at scale while advancing mineral recovery from e-waste.”
Taranis Managing Director David Sorin added, “Elemental’s platform reduces both carbon intensity and waste, while creating value from discarded resources. That’s the kind of circular innovation the world urgently needs.”
With this new round, Elemental plans to accelerate production capacity to meet rising industry demand. The funds will also go toward enhancing mineral recovery processes and expanding partnerships within the energy, materials, and recycling sectors.
The company aims to further optimize its supply chain to reduce emissions and costs associated with industrial-scale manufacturing. In addition, Elemental will pursue research partnerships to explore new applications for its nanomaterials in energy storage, construction, and electronics.
Founded in Houston, Elemental has grown from a lab-scale operation into a commercial supplier of advanced materials. The team includes experts in chemical engineering, waste management, and nanotechnology, with a shared mission to turn industrial waste into scalable clean materials.
The company’s low-emission manufacturing method replaces toxic and energy-intensive processes traditionally used in carbon nanomaterial and hydrogen production. It also provides a secondary source of critical minerals that are increasingly needed across clean tech sectors.
Taranis Carbon Ventures is known for supporting climate tech with industrial applications. This investment aligns with its mission to back technologies that reduce emissions and create sustainable value from existing waste streams.
The latest round adds to Elemental’s prior capital raises, although earlier funding details have not been disclosed.
