NxLite has closed a $9.2 million Series A funding round to expand production of its energy-control coatings and increase capacity at its Advanced Innovation & Manufacturing Center in Michigan. The company will use the capital to scale operations and accelerate market adoption of its air-stable coating technology for transparent surfaces.
Crabtree Lane Alt, a Chicago-based active financial investor, led the round. Other participants included Earth Foundry, MUUS, New Climate Ventures, and ACT Venture Partners of the Netherlands, along with strategic investors from the door and window manufacturing sector.
Buildings account for a substantial share of global energy consumption, with windows representing one of the biggest sources of inefficiency. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that up to 30% of heating and cooling energy escapes through windows, creating both environmental and economic challenges for property owners.
NxLite's technology targets this problem directly. Unlike conventional solutions that require sealed multi-pane systems, the company's air-stable coatings can be applied to single-pane surfaces as well as traditional insulated glass units. This flexibility opens up new possibilities for retrofitting existing structures and designing lightweight applications across multiple industries.
The Series A proceeds will primarily support expanded manufacturing capacity to meet rising customer demand. NxLite plans to strengthen its commercial operations in Michigan while accelerating its go-to-market strategy across key sectors including residential construction, commercial real estate, refrigeration, and transportation.
The company has already signed joint development agreements and purchase orders with established players in window manufacturing, plastics production, and the food and beverage industry. These partnerships provide validation for the technology and create clear pathways to volume production.
"With strategic partnerships in place, global customers, and unique offerings, the Series A investment provides us the capital to meet the growing demand of our customers," said David Mather, Chairman and CEO of NxLite. "We have the chance to redefine energy efficiency and operating costs in every transparent application."
NxLite's coatings can be applied to multiple substrate types, including glass, acrylic, and polycarbonate. This versatility allows the technology to serve diverse applications that conventional low-emissivity coatings cannot easily address.
Current and planned use cases span several high-value markets. In residential and commercial buildings, the coatings reduce heating and cooling costs. For refrigeration display doors, they improve energy efficiency while helping minimize product spoilage. Window inserts coated with NxLite's technology can upgrade older buildings to modern performance standards without full window replacement.
The transportation sector represents another significant opportunity. Lightweight coated materials can improve fuel efficiency and extend electric vehicle range while providing better climate control inside vehicles.
Bobby Weatherholz, Vice President of DALB Inc., a decorative and functional plastics manufacturer based in Kearneysville, West Virginia, highlighted growing market interest in the technology.
"We are very impressed with NxLite's energy-coated substrates," said Weatherholz. "We are seeing significant interest with our customers in the vending, beverage cooler, automotive, and transportation industries."
NxLite was founded to commercialize air-stable, energy-efficient coatings for glass and polymer substrates. The company's proprietary permanent low-emissivity coatings reduce energy consumption while offering weight advantages over traditional alternatives.
The manufacturer works with partners across window production, commercial refrigeration, transportation, and other sectors to deploy its technology globally. NxLite combines expertise in materials science and advanced manufacturing with backing from investors focused on climate technology and industrial innovation.
The round brings together financial investors and strategic partners with experience in climate technology, materials innovation, and manufacturing. Crabtree Lane Alt provided leadership for the funding round, while Earth Foundry, MUUS, New Climate Ventures, and ACT Venture Partners contributed capital alongside industry participants.
These investors join existing backers who have supported NxLite's development of its coating technology and manufacturing capabilities. The combination of financial and strategic investors positions the company to execute on both production scale-up and market penetration objectives.
