Fireworks AI has secured $250 million in a Series C funding round, placing the company's valuation at $4 billion. This new investment includes both primary and secondary funding.
The round was co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners, Index Ventures, and Evantic. Existing investor Sequoia Capital also participated, helping bring the company's total funding to more than $327 million.
The company's growth comes as more businesses move AI projects from experimentation into their core operations. Many enterprises are seeking alternatives to generic platforms, wanting more control over their data and a better fit for their specific needs. Fireworks AI was founded on the belief that the future of AI would not be controlled by just a few large model providers. Instead, it would be distributed across thousands of companies customizing their own AI products.
“Our mission is to enable every business to achieve automated product and model co-design to reach maximum quality, speed, and cost-efficiency using generative AI,” said Lin Qiao, CEO and co-founder of Fireworks. “Fireworks is the only platform that delivers all three: state-of-the-art open-source models, sub-second inference at scale, and the ability to own and differentiate your AI. That’s why companies like Uber, Genspark, Retell AI, Shopify, GitLab, and so many AI Native startups have built and scaled on Fireworks.”
Fireworks AI plans to use the new capital to meet the increasing enterprise demand for its production AI infrastructure. The funds are designated for significant global expansion and hiring for engineering, product, and market-facing roles.
The company will also invest heavily in its technology. This includes advancing research in tuning and inference alignment, and expanding its product into a complete AI creation toolchain. A key goal is to scale its global compute infrastructure by 3 to 4 times over the next year, aiming to lower costs per token while maximizing system use.
The company was founded in 2022 by the team that previously worked on PyTorch. They started Fireworks AI to provide an AI cloud for enterprise developers, focusing on speed, cost efficiency, and control.
Fireworks champions a "one-size-fits-one" model, arguing that generic models solve only generic problems. The platform allows developers to tune open-source models using their own specific data, such as user interactions, internal knowledge, and workflow patterns.
This process, which the company calls "product-model co-design," creates a feedback loop where the product and the model improve together. This approach has found a strong market. Fireworks now serves over 10,000 companies and processes more than 10 trillion tokens daily for customers like Samsung, Uber, DoorDash, Notion, and Shopify.
The new Series C leaders—Lightspeed Venture Partners, Index Ventures, and Evantic—join a strong roster of existing backers. Previous funding rounds were led by Benchmark and Sequoia Capital. The company has also received strategic investments from NVIDIA, AMD, MongoDB, and Databricks.
“We are really excited to see what we were able to achieve partnering with Fireworks,” said Kay Zhu, co-founder and CTO at Genspark. “Fireworks enabled us to own our AI journey, and unlock better quality in just four weeks. This resulted in a better user experience for our customers.”
