GeologicAI has raised $44 million in Series B funding to scale its AI-powered mineral analysis platform, aimed at transforming how the mining industry finds and develops critical mineral resources. The round was led by Blue Earth Capital and joined by major mining players BHP Ventures and Rio Tinto, along with returning investor Breakthrough Energy.
The investment marks a significant milestone for the Calgary-based company, which has become known for its real-time core scanning technology that merges sensor data with machine learning to speed up geological analysis.
Demand for minerals like lithium, copper, and rare earths is soaring amid the energy transition and the rapid buildout of AI infrastructure and data centers. That surge is pressuring the mining industry to find more efficient and sustainable ways to locate and process these materials.
GeologicAI’s tools are positioned at the intersection of this challenge and opportunity. Its core scanning platform captures high-resolution geological data in real time, reducing delays and costs in exploration while improving decision quality.
“A significant increase in the supply of critical minerals is essential for the energy transition and specifically electrification,” said Kayode Akinola, Head of Private Equity at Blue Earth Capital. “We believe GeologicAI is at the forefront of providing solutions to improve the recovery process while reducing the environmental footprint.”
With fresh capital in hand, GeologicAI plans to expand its proprietary AI and sensor technologies, as well as broaden its footprint in key mining regions worldwide. The company will focus on growth in jurisdictions where the need for critical minerals is most pressing, ensuring faster access to decision-ready data for mining companies and investors alike.
“We are proud of the impact we have already had and are honored by the support of such visionary investors and industry leaders as we accelerate our mission and scale our impact,” said Grant Sanden, CEO of GeologicAI.
Beyond product development, the funds will support further deployment of GeologicAI’s platform at exploration and development sites across five continents. The company is also looking to deepen its partnerships with major mining players and expand its role in global supply chains.
“GeologicAI is addressing one of the mining’s sector’s most pressing challenges,” said Laurel Buckner, Vice President, Ventures at BHP. “Their game-changing technology is disrupting traditional, time – and cost – intensive workflows with AI-powered analytics and modelling solutions.”
Rio Tinto’s Head of Growth & Ventures, Pekka Santasalo, added: “GeologicAI’s high-resolution approach and real-time data capabilities have the potential to transform how we think about project development timelines and risk.”
Founded in Calgary, GeologicAI has developed a reputation for applying artificial intelligence in ways that directly serve geologists and exploration teams. The company’s High Resolution Decision Engineering platform is built on a mix of proprietary sensors, machine learning models, and deep mining industry expertise.
It’s now used by mining firms around the world to boost discovery rates, reduce environmental impact, and make faster, better-informed decisions about drilling and investment.
Blue Earth Capital, the lead investor, focuses on impact-driven investments in electrification and sustainability. The fund is known for backing companies that apply AI to industrial challenges. Breakthrough Energy, founded by Bill Gates, continues its support of GeologicAI through its venture arm, which aims to accelerate climate innovation.
“GeologicAI’s AI-driven process is accelerating the discovery and development of new deposits,” said Carmichael Roberts of Breakthrough Energy Ventures. “This strengthens the mineral pipeline that’s essential for electrification.”
Alongside BHP and Rio Tinto, these investors are betting that digital tools like GeologicAI will play a central role in meeting the world’s growing critical minerals demand.
