Groq, the AI inference specialist, has closed a substantial $750 million funding round that values the company at $6.9 billion post-money. The investment was spearheaded by Disruptive, a Dallas-based growth firm, with major participation from financial heavyweights including BlackRock, Neuberger Berman, Deutsche Telekom Capital Partners, and a large West Coast mutual fund manager.
The round also drew continued backing from existing investors Samsung, Cisco, D1, Altimeter, 1789 Capital, and Infinitum. This financing marks a significant milestone for the company as demand for AI inference capabilities continues to accelerate across global markets.
The timing aligns with broader industry trends where inference technology is becoming as critical as the AI models themselves. Companies worldwide are recognizing that fast, reliable compute infrastructure will determine their success in deploying AI applications at scale.
Recent White House policy further supports this momentum. The administration issued an executive order promoting the export of American AI technology, emphasizing global deployment of US-origin infrastructure. This policy backdrop positions companies like Groq as key players in America's AI competitiveness strategy.
"Inference is defining this era of AI, and we're building the American infrastructure that delivers it with high speed and low cost," said Jonathan Ross, Groq Founder and CEO.
Groq will use the fresh capital to accelerate its global expansion and strengthen its compute infrastructure. The company currently operates data centers across North America, Europe, and the Middle East, serving more than two million developers and numerous Fortune 500 clients.
The funding will support continued international growth as businesses increasingly demand faster, more cost-effective AI processing capabilities. Groq's infrastructure already powers applications for enterprises worldwide, and this investment will help meet surging demand.
Founded in 2016, Groq built its reputation by developing the Language Processing Unit (LPU) and GroqCloud platform. These technologies address two key industry challenges: processing speed and cost efficiency. The company's approach focuses on making AI inference both faster and more affordable than traditional alternatives.
Jonathan Ross leads the company as Founder and CEO, bringing deep expertise in specialized computing architecture. Under his leadership, Groq has positioned itself as what the company calls a "key part of the American AI Stack," trusted by millions of developers globally.
The company's technology serves as the backbone for various AI applications, from real-time chatbots to complex data analysis systems. This broad utility has helped Groq build a diverse customer base spanning multiple industries.
Disruptive has committed nearly $350 million to Groq through this round. The firm has a track record of backing transformative technology companies, including notable investments in Palantir, Airbnb, Spotify, Shield AI, Hims, Databricks, Stripe, and Slack.
"As AI expands, the infrastructure behind it will be as essential as the models themselves," said Alex Davis, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Disruptive. "Groq is building that foundation, and we couldn't be more excited to partner with Jonathan and his team in this next chapter of explosive growth."
This partnership reflects growing investor confidence in infrastructure-layer AI companies. While much attention focuses on model development, the compute layer that powers these applications is attracting significant capital as investors recognize its strategic importance.
