Hammerhead AI has officially launched with $10 million in seed funding to address one of the most pressing challenges facing the AI industry: power constraints. The company’s solution aims to help AI data center operators squeeze more performance from their existing infrastructure without waiting for massive grid upgrades.
Buoyant Ventures led the oversubscribed round, joined by SE Ventures (backed by data center equipment manufacturer Schneider Electric), AINA Climate AI Ventures, MCJ Collective, WovenEarth Ventures, and others. The strong backing underscores the urgency of the problem Hammerhead is solving.
AI data centers are hitting a wall. Despite having specialized GPUs racked and ready, many facilities simply can't access enough power to run them. This leads to substantial underutilization across the sector, with most AI factories operating at just 30% to 50% of their potential capacity.
To understand the scale of this issue, the challenge is only set to grow: A recent report by Deloitte estimates that power demand from AI data centers in the United States could grow more than thirtyfold by 2035, reaching 123 gigawatts, up from 4 gigawatts in 2024. This massive, accelerating demand highlights why finding smarter ways to manage existing power is essential.
Hammerhead's Orchestrated RL Control Agents (ORCA) platform takes a unique approach. Rather than focusing solely on efficiency, the system optimizes for total token productivity across entire facilities.
The platform can boost output by up to 30% by dynamically orchestrating workloads within existing power budgets. This means operators can deploy AI workloads faster, improve their profit margins, and capture revenue from previously idle capacity.
The founding team brings extensive, relevant experience in power management and large-scale enterprise systems. The core team—CEO Rahul Kar, CTO Rajeev Singh, and Sadia Raveendran—have a history of success: Rahul Kar, Rajeev Singh, and Sadia Raveendran, the core team, previously built and scaled AutoGrid, a company specializing in power orchestration technology that was later acquired by Schneider Electric. Collectively, they've orchestrated 8,000 megawatts of energy assets across more than 20 countries.
Their lead investor, Buoyant Ventures, is equally confident. Partner Laura Katzman emphasized the team's credentials, stating: "The Hammerhead team represents the rare combination of deep technical expertise and proven scaling experience needed to redefine the economics of AI infrastructure." Prior to joining Buoyant Ventures, Laura Katzman co-founded the student-run Michigan Climate Venture and worked in investment management at firms like Deloitte and Ares Management as a licensed CPA. This background shows a clear focus on both climate technology and sound financial modeling.
Amit Chaturvedy, Global Head and Managing Partner at SE Ventures, highlighted the company's unique position, noting that Hammerhead "is the only company positioned to boost data center operators' revenue through its unique power-aware token maximization approach."
The fresh capital will now fuel product development and global deployment efforts, strengthening partnerships with infrastructure manufacturers and AI factory operators.
