HoloMD, an AI-powered Remote Therapeutic Monitoring platform for psychiatry, has completed a $1.6 million first close of its $3 million seed round. The funding marks a significant milestone for the young company, which launched in July 2024. HoloMD is building technology designed to help psychiatrists and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners extend care beyond traditional clinic visits while accessing reimbursement through established billing codes.
The platform centers on Dr. Holo, an AI companion that engages with patients daily between psychiatrist appointments. The system provides evidence-based interactions and generates clinical insights for providers. Licensed clinicians review each interaction to maintain safety and accuracy, combining automation with human oversight.
Dr. Holo conducts daily check-ins and delivers what the company calls micro-interventions. It then translates patient emotions, context, and behaviors into concise summaries for psychiatrists. The platform structures these interactions to comply with Remote Therapeutic Monitoring CPT codes, allowing providers to bill for care that previously went uncompensated.
In its first 15 months, HoloMD completed Phase 1 of its platform rollout. The company moved from initial concept to generating live revenue and validating its reimbursement model with real-world deployments. Early users have shown strong patient engagement and positive feedback from clinicians. The company has successfully validated RTM billing across multiple commercial insurance payers.
With this foundation established, HoloMD is preparing to expand into additional psychiatric practices and new markets. The fresh capital will support this expansion and accelerate further development of the Dr. Holo platform.
"Built by psychiatrists for psychiatrists and PMHNPs, our mission is to extend healing beyond the clinic walls," said Bruce A. Kehr, MD, Founder and CEO of HoloMD. "Dr. Holo engages patients every day, surfaces what's going well and what isn't, and equips clinicians with actionable insights to improve diagnosis and treatment, while enabling care between visits that is eligible for reimbursement."
The new funding will support development aimed at reducing clinician burnout while expanding patient access to mental health support. The platform helps providers deliver continuous care without adding unsustainable workload, creating what HoloMD describes as new revenue opportunities through RTM reimbursement.
HoloMD's approach is built on 40 years of psychiatric expertise from its founding team. The platform aims to improve clinical outcomes by giving psychiatrists better visibility into patient progress between appointments. This continuous monitoring model differs from traditional psychiatry, where providers typically see patients for brief sessions weeks or months apart.
The company sees potential to scale quality psychiatric care more widely. By automating routine monitoring while maintaining clinical supervision, HoloMD hopes to help practices serve more patients effectively.
HoloMD's leadership team brings significant healthcare industry experience. Executive Chairman Jim Pearson has led three prior healthcare companies to exits totaling $450 million, with acquisitions by Stryker and Hologic. His background in building and scaling medical technology companies provides strategic guidance for HoloMD's growth trajectory.
Dr. Bruce Kehr founded the company after decades in psychiatric practice. His clinical expertise, developed through Potomac Psychiatry, informs the platform's design and ensures it addresses real needs psychiatrists face in daily practice.
"HoloMD sits at the intersection of better outcomes and better economics," said Jim Pearson, HoloMD's Executive Chairman. "By aligning eligible RTM reimbursement with continuous patient support, we have created a sustainable model that is designed to help clinicians improve outcomes while scaling care sustainably."
The company's approach centers on validated reimbursement pathways. HoloMD has confirmed that its RTM workflows qualify for billing under Medicare and commercial insurance plans. This reimbursement validation distinguishes the platform from mental health technologies that rely on out-of-pocket payment or lack clear revenue models for providers.
The platform maintains HIPAA and HITECH compliance to protect patient data. HoloMD currently supports Medicare RTM billing and continues expanding its payer network. The company has filed seven provisional patents, one utility patent, and three trademarks as it builds intellectual property around its approach.
The upcoming investor briefing on November 11 will provide additional details on the company's market traction and plans for deploying the new seed capital. As HoloMD enters its next growth phase, the company aims to demonstrate that AI-assisted psychiatry can improve both clinical outcomes and practice economics when designed with proper clinical oversight and reimbursement alignment.
