Persona has secured $200 million in Series D funding to expand its identity infrastructure platform, addressing the rising complexity of online verification in the AI age. The round was led by Founders Fund and Ribbit Capital, with ongoing support from existing investors including BOND, Chemistry, Coatue Management, First Round, and Index Ventures.
The funding comes amid soaring demand for trustworthy, privacy-first verification tools. Persona’s customer base now spans a wide spectrum of industries and geographies—from banks and digital platforms to sports teams, educational institutions, and even cities. In 2024 alone, the company processed over 300 million verifications and doubled both its revenue and customer count.
Digital identity, once a niche requirement for regulated sectors, has become critical for all types of businesses. Today, Persona supports global platforms like LinkedIn, Block, and OpenAI. With the rise of AI agents and increasing fraud risks, companies are rethinking how they confirm who’s behind an interaction.
"As AI reshapes how we work, transact, and communicate, identity has gone from a point-in-time security check to a foundational layer," the company stated. This evolution is pushing identity into a central role for privacy, security, and trust.
With the new capital, Persona aims to expand its platform capabilities while reinforcing its privacy-first approach. The company will continue building tools that let users control their personal information and help organizations reduce compliance overhead.
The funding will support product development, hiring, and the integration of global identity standards into its flexible platform. Persona’s goal is to make identity as portable and easy to use as tapping a credit card.
Founded in 2018, Persona was created in response to a fragmented and rapidly evolving identity landscape. Traditional methods—like passwords and security questions—have given way to selfie scans and NFC-based ID verification, but AI-generated content and deepfakes have made old defenses obsolete.
Persona’s platform addresses this by offering reusable, verified identity solutions that work across use cases. The company is also investing in tools that help customers meet shifting regulatory requirements without rebuilding their systems from scratch.
Rather than simplifying identity by oversimplifying the problem, Persona embraces its complexity. Its modular platform allows businesses and governments to customize identity flows without compromising on security or user experience.
For consumers, this means retaining control over how their personal data is saved, shared, and reused. "Instead of resubmitting the same information every time, they can reuse verified data," the company noted. This approach reduces friction while safeguarding privacy.
In addition to lead investors Founders Fund and Ribbit Capital, the Series D round included continued backing from BOND, Chemistry, Coatue Management, First Round, and Index Ventures. These firms have supported Persona through previous rounds as well.
The company believes solving identity at scale requires not just technology but also collaboration across organizations and sectors. Persona plans to create more opportunities for its customers and partners to share insights and strengthen defenses together.
Persona envisions a future where verified identity becomes a standard layer of the internet—simple for users, powerful for organizations, and resilient enough to adapt to AI-driven threats. With the new funding, it’s building the infrastructure to support that future.
Whether it's identifying the human behind an AI agent or verifying access to a service, Persona is positioning itself as the backbone for trustworthy digital interactions.
