Sydney-based Index has raised A$3.5 million in a seed funding round led by Blackbird and Bain Capital Ventures, with participation from BOND, Y Combinator, and a group of angel investors. The company, founded in 2023 by Simon Kubica and Christian Iacullo, is now valued at A$30 million—just two months after launching publicly.
The investment will enable Index to accelerate product development and expand its reach. With thousands of companies already on its pre-order list, the startup has now opened early access to all users without a waitlist.
Traditional B2B product management tools have struggled to keep pace with modern workflows. Companies often rely on fragmented solutions—spreadsheets, whiteboards, and databases—to manage feature requests and strategic planning. This lack of purpose-built tooling creates inefficiencies, leaving critical feedback untracked and product roadmaps disconnected from execution.
Index aims to solve this problem, offering a centralized platform that enables product teams to confidently set priorities, link opportunities to revenue, and integrate seamlessly with Linear for engineering execution.
As CEO Simon Kubica explains:
"Companies have large initiatives they’re working on—goals that span across teams. Index is the home for all of those things and helps everyone get on the same page."
The new funding will help Index scale operations, enhance its platform, and deepen integrations with existing tools. The company also plans to grow its team in Sydney, tapping into Australia’s tech talent pool from companies like Atlassian and Canva.
“We flew over to the US and spent about a year in Silicon Valley,” Kubica shares. “Then we decided that to really grow the team, we have a real advantage doing it in Sydney.”
Beyond hiring, the investment will be used to accelerate feature development, ensuring Index becomes the go-to platform for product teams globally.
Index’s vision has attracted some of the biggest names in venture capital and the startup ecosystem:
Blackbird co-founder Niki Scevak highlights the potential of Index:
“We are excited to be in partnership with Simon and Christian in pursuit of their dream to bring the same rigour that is applied in the building phase of software projects to the planning of them.”
Founded in 2023, Index was built by ex-Atlassian and Canva alumni to address a problem they experienced firsthand. Kubica, previously at Atlassian, struggled to communicate and track big-picture goals across multiple teams.
“When I was at Atlassian, I worked across and managed four or five teams. I didn’t have one place to tell everyone in the business that the goal for my group was to get to 10,000 developers and deliver six or seven projects over the next few months,” Kubica recalls.
This challenge resonated with co-founder Christian Iacullo, who faced similar issues at Canva. Their shared experience sparked the idea for Index, leading them to join Y Combinator and secure early traction from top tech companies.
Now, Index is being used by product leaders at companies like Deputy, Immutable, Woolworths, and Serko, with thousands more on the waitlist. Canva co-founder Cliff Obrecht even praised the tool, calling it “incredibly powerful and flexible” in a LinkedIn post.
With this funding, Index is poised for significant expansion. The company plans to enhance real-time collaboration features, deepen integrations, and expand its user base globally.
Kubica and Iacullo are also hiring engineers and product specialists to scale operations further. If you’re interested in joining the team in Sydney, they’re actively recruiting.
Early access to Index is now open to all, and the team hints at more major announcements in 2025.
