Insilico Medicine, a clinical-stage biotechnology company specializing in generative AI-driven drug discovery, has secured $110 million in Series E financing. The round was led by a private equity fund of Value Partners Group, one of Asia’s largest independent asset management firms, with strong participation from new industry and technology-focused investors, as well as continued backing from existing stakeholders.
The funding, which was oversubscribed, underscores growing investor confidence in AI’s role in transforming drug development. While the valuation was not disclosed, the company has consistently attracted significant funding in prior rounds, reinforcing its leadership in AI-powered biopharmaceutical research.
Insilico Medicine operates at the intersection of artificial intelligence and biopharmaceutical research, using advanced AI models to accelerate drug discovery and reduce development costs. The company’s proprietary platform, Pharma.AI, integrates generative AI, deep learning, and automation to streamline drug development from target identification to clinical trials.
"We are excited to partner with Insilico Medicine in its mission to transform drug discovery with AI and automation," said Dr. Chuen Yan Leung, Partner (Healthcare Investments) at Value Partners. "With a proven track record and a leadership position in AI-driven drug development, Insilico is at the forefront of transforming the industry."
The new funds will be directed toward two primary objectives: advancing Insilico’s drug pipeline and enhancing its AI platform. Part of the capital will support refining AI models and expanding automation capabilities in its R&D lab, improving efficiency in early-stage drug discovery. The company will also accelerate clinical validation of Rentosertib (formerly ISM001-055), its most advanced drug candidate targeting idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF).
Beyond its flagship candidate, Insilico aims to broaden its portfolio, accelerating the development of independently discovered drugs and co-developed assets. This funding will also support the company’s AI-powered robotic lab, Life Star1, which integrates bipedal humanoid AI scientists for autonomous drug discovery research.
Founded by Alex Zhavoronkov, PhD, Insilico Medicine is a global biotechnology company leveraging AI to revolutionize drug discovery. Since its inception, the company has built a portfolio of 30 drug assets, with 10 receiving IND clearance and progressing through clinical trials.
The company’s Pharma.AI platform undergoes major updates twice a year, integrating the latest AI advancements, including Nach01, a multimodal foundation model for natural and chemical languages, and Dora, a multi-agent generative research assistant.
Insilico Medicine has also reduced the time required for preclinical candidate (PCC) nominations to 12–18 months, significantly shorter than the industry average of 2.5 to 4 years. This acceleration reflects the power of AI-driven discovery in minimizing time and resource investments for biopharmaceutical R&D.
Insilico has established a strong financial and strategic foundation, securing over $2.1 billion in out-licensing deals with Fosun Pharma, Exelixis, and Menarini. It has also formed research collaborations valued at over $1.4 billion, partnering with Sanofi, Saudi Aramco, Therasid Bioscience, and others.
"The funds raised will accelerate the advancement of our drug pipeline and AI platform, further solidifying Insilico’s leadership in this rapidly evolving sector," said Alex Zhavoronkov, PhD, Founder and CEO of Insilico Medicine. "We remain dedicated to our mission of extending productive longevity to people and are proud to be at the forefront of innovation in healthcare."
