Island, the Dallas-based company behind the Enterprise Browser, has raised $250 million in a Series E round led by Coatue Management. The funding pushes Island’s valuation to $4.8 billion—an impressive milestone achieved just five years after its founding in 2020.
The round included participation from several existing investors and brings Island’s total outside funding to approximately $730 million. This latest capital injection underscores growing investor confidence in Island’s unique approach to workplace security and productivity.
Island operates in a fast-evolving segment that reimagines the web browser as a secure, centralized workspace for modern enterprises. Rather than relying on add-ons and patches to protect sensitive data, Island embeds security and IT controls directly into the browser itself.
“The Enterprise Browser upgrades web browsers from a dedicated consumer software package to an enterprise-ready solution,” said Mike Fey, CEO and Co-founder of Island. “Organizations of all sizes and industries have made Island the cornerstone of their IT modernization initiatives.”
With this new round, Island plans to double down on product development and talent acquisition to meet the rising demand for secure and efficient IT environments. The company currently has 500 employees, with more than 200 dedicated to engineering and product development.
As businesses adopt hybrid models and expand cloud operations, Island’s solution positions it to address growing enterprise security challenges. The funds will help Island keep pace with this shift, enhancing its core technology and expanding its workforce globally.
Island emerged from stealth mode in early 2022. Since then, the company has built a customer base of 450 organizations and doubled its annual recurring revenue each year. These customers span industries including government, education, finance, manufacturing, and retail.
“Customer collaboration has been the key to building the Enterprise Browser since day one,” said Dan Amiga, CTO and Co-founder. “Creating and growing a new category requires deep technical partnerships and maximum trust.”
The Island Enterprise Browser offers built-in capabilities for IT governance, security, and productivity—all within a familiar Chromium interface. IT teams gain visibility and control, while users benefit from a seamless experience.
The browser enables secure access to SaaS tools, supports zero-trust network access, and simplifies onboarding for contractors and new employees. It’s also becoming a preferred alternative to traditional virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI), offering more flexible and responsive setups.
Island’s growing investor base includes Canapi Ventures, Capital One Ventures, Cisco Investments, Citi Ventures, Cyberstarts, EDBI, Georgian, Insight Partners, Prysm Capital, Sequoia Capital, ServiceNow Ventures, and Stripes.
“We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with Island,” said David Schneider, General Partner at Coatue. “As AI adoption continues to accelerate, Island is helping establish a new industry standard.”
