Kapital, the Mexico City–based financial technology company serving small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), has raised up to $100 million in a Series C round that doubles its valuation to $1.3 billion. The company also reached profitability in under two years.
The round was led by Tribe Capital, with Pelion Ventures as co-lead and participation from Y Combinator, Marbruck Ventures, and True Arrow. Kapital says the funding will accelerate the rollout of its AI-powered financial platform across Latin America.
Unlike traditional banks that layer software on legacy systems, Kapital was designed from the ground up as a tech-first institution. Its infrastructure emphasizes automation and scalability, which the company says allows it to launch products faster, acquire traditional banks, and rebuild them on its modern stack.
That approach has already scaled Kapital’s balance sheet to $3 billion and grown its customer base to 300,000 across Mexico, Colombia, and the U.S.
"We are proud to join an elite group of unicorns emerging from Latin America. Kapital is already profitable, and our growth continues to accelerate through the unique combination of a banking license and proprietary software," said CEO Rene Saul. "By taking a regulatory-first approach and ensuring each step in our expansion is aligned with policymakers, Kapital is setting a new standard for tech-enabled banking in the region."
With the new capital, Kapital plans to strengthen its unified financial ecosystem for SMBs. The company aims to expand AI-driven services that support compliance, credit risk management, and cash-flow optimization.
"What makes our model possible is not just capital, but our ability to modernize infrastructure through advanced AML/KYC compliance, machine learning, and AI-driven risk systems," added CFO Fernando Sandoval. "Kapital is emerging as the most forward-learning technology bank in the region – built on a foundation that is both financial and computational, designed to compound advantage with every product, acquisition, and customer we bring onto the platform."
Founded with a focus on making capital more accessible to businesses, Kapital operates in Mexico and Colombia while serving customers in the U.S. The platform enables SMBs to manage operations, loans, and cash flow with the kind of tools usually reserved for large corporations—at a lower cost.
Its combination of a banking license and proprietary AI infrastructure sets it apart from other fintech players that rely on third-party systems. The company has also been recognized internationally, named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer in 2024 and 2025 and included in CNBC’s Disruptor 50 list in 2024.
The latest funding round adds to Kapital’s history of support from prominent venture investors. Alongside lead backers Tribe Capital and Pelion Ventures, the round drew participation from Y Combinator, Marbruck Ventures, and True Arrow.
As the company eyes further expansion, investors appear to be betting on Kapital’s ability to build modern banking infrastructure for Latin America’s fast-growing SMB market.
