UK-based legaltech startup Lawhive has secured $40 million in Series A funding to accelerate its expansion into the US. The company, founded in 2019 by Pierre Proner, Jaime Van Oers, and Flinn Dolman, is on a mission to make legal services accessible and affordable for everyone. By automating administrative and legal tasks, Lawhive helps lawyers cut costs for clients by up to 50%, while simplifying workflows with its AI-powered platform.

At the core of Lawhive’s technology is Lawrence, an AI-driven virtual lawyer that automates routine legal tasks. Remarkably, Lawrence has matched the performance of human lawyers in tests and even passed part one of the Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE). Through its marketplace, Lawhive connects lawyers with consumers and small businesses, tackling a range of issues from family law and property disputes to consumer rights and small business needs.

Bridging the Justice Gap in the US

The company’s US expansion aims to address the justice gap in the world’s largest legal market, where affordable legal access remains a pressing challenge. CEO and co-founder Pierre Proner highlighted the opportunity:

“By augmenting the work of human lawyers with our technology, we’re addressing a critical need in the US market and unlocking new opportunities for millions of US attorneys.”

Key investors

Lawhive’s $40M Series A funding round was co-led by GV (Google Ventures) and TQ Ventures, two prominent investors known for backing transformative technology companies. They were joined by Balderton Capital, Jigsaw, and Episode 1, all of which bring extensive experience in scaling startups with innovative solutions.

Adding a unique touch to the funding round, Premier League footballers Harry Maguire and Reece James also participated, signaling growing interest in legaltech innovation from unexpected sectors.

Schuster Tanger, Co-Founder and Co-Managing Partner at TQ Ventures, praised Lawhive’s potential, emphasizing the US legal market’s need for disruption and the startup’s ability to address critical gaps in affordable legal access. Meanwhile, Vidu Shanmugarajah, a partner at GV, highlighted Lawhive’s rapid growth as evidence of the rising demand for scalable, tech-driven legal solutions.

This diverse and influential group of investors provides Lawhive with strategic resources, market insights, and funding to drive its ambitious expansion into the US market.

Backed by Industry Leaders

The $40M Series A round was co-led by GV (Google Ventures) and TQ Ventures, with additional support from Balderton Capital, Jigsaw, Episode 1, and Premier League footballers Harry Maguire and Reece James.

Schuster Tanger, Co-Founder and Co-Managing Partner at TQ Ventures, emphasized the potential of Lawhive in disrupting the US legal market:

“The US legal market, arguably the largest in the world, is ripe for disruption. The pressing need for affordable legal access makes it the perfect environment for innovative tech solutions like Lawhive’s.”

Vidu Shanmugarajah, partner at GV, noted that Lawhive’s rapid growth underscores the increasing demand for tech-driven legal services that are both affordable and scalable.

Innovating Legal Support for Everyone

Lawhive has already transformed access to legal services in the UK, helping thousands of individuals and small businesses navigate complex issues with greater efficiency and affordability. With the $40M Series A funding, the company is poised to redefine the US legal landscape by providing AI-powered tools that empower lawyers and bridge the justice gap for underserved communities.
