MirrorTab, a cybersecurity firm focused on protecting web applications, has secured $8.5 million in seed funding. The round was led by Valley Capital Partners, with contributions from GV, Ludlow Ventures, Altman Capital Fund, NextGen Venture Partners, and Alumni Ventures.
The funding will enable MirrorTab to enhance its browser security technology, addressing rising cyber threats such as hacking, bots, and malware. With cyberattacks increasingly targeting web sessions, MirrorTab’s solution is designed to provide a seamless yet highly secure experience for users.
Web browsers have become a prime target for cyberattacks, leveraging automation, artificial intelligence, and browser vulnerabilities to bypass traditional security measures.
“Browsers have become the battleground for hacking, bots, and malware,” said Brian Silverstein, CEO and founder of MirrorTab. “Cyberattacks have evolved, leveraging browsers, AI and automation to evade detection, mimic human-like behavior, and execute attacks that cannot be prevented with typical web security controls. MirrorTab addresses this critical blind spot in traditional detection-based solutions.”
Unlike traditional Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) and bot detection tools, which primarily focus on filtering incoming traffic, MirrorTab secures the session itself, making it immune to client-side attacks. This technology ensures that even if a user’s device is compromised, sensitive data remains protected.
The newly acquired investment will support further development of MirrorTab’s security capabilities, allowing the company to expand its integrations and enhance its isolation technology. Additionally, MirrorTab aims to accelerate its commercial availability to ensure broad adoption across industries.
The funding will also be used to strengthen partnerships with web application providers, financial institutions, and e-commerce platforms, sectors where securing online transactions and user data is essential.
MirrorTab was founded by Brian Silverstein, who previously co-founded Honey, a browser extension that helps users find online discounts. Recognizing how similar technology could be exploited by cybercriminals, he launched MirrorTab to address browser-based security risks.
The company’s technology works by removing the browser as an attack surface, protecting web applications without disrupting the user experience. This innovative approach ensures that malware, harmful extensions, and other threats cannot access sensitive information.
Allison Miller, a cybersecurity expert and former CISO and VP of Trust at Reddit, serves as an advisor to MirrorTab. She highlighted that MirrorTab’s technology offers protection against sophisticated, hard-to-detect cyber threats, making it a unique player in the cybersecurity landscape.
MirrorTab’s funding round attracted some of the most prominent investors in the tech sector, reinforcing confidence in its innovative approach to browser security.
“Attackers have discovered that the browser can be actively and extensively exploited - and that there's currently no way to stop them,” said Steve O’Hara, Founder and Managing Partner at Valley Capital Partners. “Recent events have shown just how devastating these attacks can be, with critical personal and financial information easily acquired. The scale of fraud, theft, and damage attributable to these client side attacks is shocking and unacceptable. We believe that MirrorTab has created an innovative and effective solution that is unmatched in stopping these hard-to-detect attacks.”
