Now in Graphic Design: Recraft Secures $12M to Redefine the Industry

Recraft stands in generative AI design, empowering users to craft and tweak vector art, icons, 3D images and more

In a game-changing move, AI graphic design innovator Recraft has just unveiled a stellar achievement—$12 million in Series A funding, marking a significant milestone for the UK-based company. The investment, led by Khosla Ventures and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman, signals a new era in the evolution of generative AI tools.

Traditionally, generative AI tools have been confined to generating raster images, covering only a fraction of the vast landscape of professional design tasks. Recraft, on the other hand, stands out by pioneering the development of both raster and infinitely scalable vector images, empowering designers with unprecedented capabilities.

Imagine a world where graphic designers can effortlessly generate and edit vector art, icons, 3D images, and illustrations—all within the parameters of a brand's unique style controls. Recraft makes this a reality, allowing users to seamlessly create branded assets without being restricted to mere text prompts. Since its launch eight months ago, Recraft has already garnered a staggering 300,000 users.

At the helm of Recraft is founder Anna Veronika Dorogush, the mastermind behind CatBoost—one of the world's most popular machine learning frameworks. Sharing her vision, Dorogush emphasizes the transformative potential of AI in reshaping design perspectives. Recraft, she explains, addresses the specific demands of professional design, delivering consistent style images and high-quality vector illustrations suitable for diverse applications—from advertising and digital marketing assets to iconography.

The infusion of $12 million in Series A funding has positioned Recraft as one of the rare entities developing its Foundation Model, a pre-trained deep learning algorithm, rather than relying on open-source AI platforms like Stable Diffusion. This strategic move is expected to catapult the quality and consistency of AI-generated graphic design to unparalleled heights, surpassing the limitations imposed by fine-tuning Stable Diffusion.

Key players in the funding round include Khosla Ventures, Nat Friedman, RTP Global, Abstract VC, and Basis Set. Angel investors such as Elad Gil, Zhenya Loginov, Dharmesh Shah, and Akshay Kothari have also joined forces to propel Recraft into its next phase of growth.

Nikita Shamgunov, Partner at Khosla Ventures, expressed excitement about Recraft's unique positioning in catering to professional workflows. Unlike many generative AI design solutions targeting consumers, Recraft stands out by delivering features tailored to professionals who demand precise control over their designs.

In essence, Recraft's Series A funding isn't just an investment—it's a resounding endorsement of the company's potential to redefine the landscape of graphic design through cutting-edge AI innovation. Watch this space as Recraft pioneers the future of professional graphic design workflows, setting a new standard for quality, creativity, and control.
