Plain Raises $15M Series A to Redefine B2B Customer Support

Key Points
  • Plain raises $15M Series A led by Battery Ventures, with continued backing from Index Ventures and Connect Ventures.
  • Redefining B2B customer support by enabling real-time, AI-powered customer collaboration across Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord.

Plain, a company transforming how B2B businesses manage customer support, has raised a $15 million Series A led by Battery Ventures. Existing investors Index Ventures and Connect Ventures also participated in the round. The funding will help Plain continue its mission to redefine customer support by focusing on AI-driven collaboration and high-touch customer engagement.

Founded in 2020, Plain provides a powerful, AI-powered support platform designed for modern B2B teams. With support increasingly shifting to real-time collaboration platforms like Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord, Plain is building the infrastructure that enables businesses to streamline customer interactions, align support and success teams, and improve response efficiency.

The Evolution of B2B Support

Customer support in B2B has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years. Traditional email and ticketing systems are being replaced by real-time conversational platforms, where businesses engage with customers instantly. AI is also playing a key role in shifting support from reactive issue resolution to proactive, customer success-driven engagement.

According to Gartner, 30% of Fortune 500 companies are expected to merge post-sales functions into a single, consolidated role by 2027. This shift underscores the need for a more integrated, AI-powered support solution—one that goes beyond ticketing and becomes a true customer collaboration platform.

"Support is no longer just about closing tickets – it’s about building long-term customer relationships," said Simon Rohrbach, CEO of Plain. "The shift to real-time, collaborative channels is changing how companies engage with their customers. Plain is designed for this new reality, helping businesses deliver support that’s fast, effective, and aligned with customer needs."

How Plain Plans to Use the New Funding

With this new investment, Plain is doubling down on three key areas:

  1. Expanding AI capabilities – Enhancing automation, predictive insights, and workflow efficiencies to help teams resolve issues faster and more collaboratively.
  2. Growing the team – Hiring across sales, marketing, design, and engineering to support its expanding customer base.
  3. Establishing a San Francisco office – Strengthening its U.S. presence to work more closely with customers and partners.

"We’ve always prioritized quality, making sure that every part of Plain is crafted with care," said Matt Vagni, CTO of Plain. "This funding allows us to continue that focus while scaling to meet the growing demand from businesses looking for a modern, AI-powered support solution."

What Sets Plain Apart?

Founded by Simon Rohrbach (formerly Director of Design at Deliveroo) and Matt Vagni (previously at Lyst and Deliveroo), Plain was born out of firsthand frustrations with existing support tools. The team recognized that as businesses grew more complex, traditional email-based support systems failed to keep pace with the needs of engineering-driven, high-touch B2B relationships.

Plain solves these challenges by providing a centralized, AI-powered platform that allows businesses to:

  • Work with customers where they are – Manage high-touch conversations across Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Discord from a single interface.
  • Deliver collaborative support – Break down silos between support, engineering, and customer success teams to resolve issues faster.
  • Leverage AI to move faster – Automate repetitive tasks, suggest responses, and surface valuable insights from customer interactions.

"Plain feels like the future," said a customer from Sanity. Companies like Laravel, Stytch, and Raycast are already using Plain to modernize their customer support workflows.

Backed by Industry Leaders

This latest funding round brings Battery Ventures on board, a firm known for investing in high-growth B2B SaaS companies such as Amplitude, Braze, Databricks, Postman, and Gainsight.

"Simon and Matt’s dedication to building a best-in-class product is evident in everything they’ve created," said Neeraj Agrawal, General Partner at Battery Ventures. "As B2B support shifts towards AI-powered collaboration, Plain is positioned to lead this transformation. We’re thrilled to partner with them on this journey."

The company has raised funding from Index Ventures and Connect Ventures in previous rounds, both of which reaffirmed their support by participating in this Series A.
