Stockholm-based Rerun has raised $17 million in a seed funding round led by Point Nine, with participation from Sunflower Capital and returning backers Costanoa Ventures and Seedcamp. The round also attracted a cohort of notable angel investors, including Guillermo Rauch (Vercel), Oliver Cameron (Odyssey), Wes McKinney (pandas, Apache Arrow), Eric Jang (1X), and Nicolas Dessaigne (Y Combinator).

This latest round brings Rerun’s total funding to $20.2 million. The capital will accelerate development of its purpose-built data platform designed for robotics, autonomous systems, and other forms of “Physical AI.”

A New Data Stack for AI That Interacts With the Real World

Rerun operates in a fast-emerging category known as Physical AI—AI systems that perceive and act in the real world through robotics, drones, autonomous vehicles, and spatial computing. These systems rely heavily on sensors, video streams, and 3D data that don’t fit traditional software tools.

"Most of the world's GDP exists in the physical world, creating an enormous opportunity for Physical AI to transform our economy," said Nikolaus West, Co-Founder and CEO of Rerun.

But as hardware advances, data infrastructure has struggled to keep up. The inability to efficiently observe, manage, and understand the data flowing from these machines has become a major blocker to commercial progress. Rerun is addressing that gap.

Building for Growth: Database Launch and Commercial Plans

The funding will support the development of Rerun’s new database and cloud data platform tailored to multimodal data—video streams, 3D scenes, and time-evolving tensors. The offering builds on the company’s open-source visualization toolkit and brings an end-to-end stack to teams working in robotics and autonomous systems.

Rerun is currently collaborating with design partners, with plans to roll out the commercial product later this year. The company also intends to double its headcount by year-end, focusing on database development and deeper integration of its tools across the Physical AI ecosystem.

From Open Source to Industry Backbone

Founded in 2022 by Nikolaus West, Emil Ernerfeldt, and Moritz Schiebold, Rerun has quickly gained traction through its open-source project, which simplifies high-performance visualization of Physical AI data. It is already used by teams at Meta, Google, Unitree, and Hugging Face’s LeRobot.

The company’s unique advantage lies in its team’s expertise—veterans from Apple, AWS, Unity, Meta, and drone delivery company Zipline. Rerun’s CTO, Emil Ernerfeldt, is also known for creating egui, the largest open-source GUI framework in Rust.

"Say a robot drives into a wall. Why did it do that? You need tools that allow you to see the world through the eyes of the robot to know why it acted the way it did," said West.

Backed by a Growing Community and Top-Tier Investors

Point Nine’s investment underscores growing VC interest in foundational technologies for robotics and AI. The firm has previously backed SaaS and data-first companies like Revolut, Loom, and Algolia.

"Rerun’s mission to build the multimodal data stack for Physical AI is wildly ambitious and we’re excited to support Emil, Moritz, Niko and team on their journey,” said Ricardo Sequerra Amram, Partner at Point Nine.

The startup's early traction has come in part from a strong developer community and a belief that Rerun’s architecture—rewritten from the ground up in Rust—can replace the fragmented in-house systems used today by robotics and AR/VR teams.
