Saronic Technologies has secured $600 million in Series C funding, a major milestone that brings the company’s valuation to $4 billion—a fourfold increase just seven months after achieving unicorn status in July 2024.
The round was led by Elad Gil and includes participation from General Catalyst, a16z, Caffeinated Capital, and 8VC. This funding positions Saronic as a key player in the shift toward autonomous naval defense.
With growing geopolitical tensions and a declining U.S. shipbuilding capacity, the demand for autonomous naval vessels is greater than ever. The U.S. Navy has emphasized the need for a hybrid fleet, integrating unmanned systems alongside traditional platforms. Saronic’s expansion directly aligns with this vision, aiming to modernize the defense sector while addressing critical production gaps.
"The last years have seen a degradation in the capacity for the United States to build ships and to manufacture core needs of the country. I am excited to back Saronic and its focus on revitalizing shipbuilding in America, while also building products to defend those interests," said Elad Gil, CEO, Gil Capital.
A significant portion of the funding will go toward Port Alpha, a next-generation shipyard designed to rapidly produce medium and large-class autonomous vessels. By scaling its Autonomous Surface Vessel (ASV) fleet, Saronic aims to bridge the shipbuilding capacity gap while ensuring the U.S. and its allies maintain maritime superiority.
"A core principle of Saronic is that we design our vessels for autonomy from the keel up," said Dino Mavrookas, CEO and Co-Founder. "We will take the same approach with Port Alpha, designing a shipyard from the ground up to produce at a speed and scale not seen since World War II."
Saronic is also working with federal and state legislators to establish public-private partnerships, reinforcing its commitment to reshaping the nation’s shipbuilding industry.
Founded by Dino Mavrookas, Saronic has quickly emerged as a leader in autonomous naval systems. Over the past year, the company has made significant strides, including:
The company’s first-principles approach to shipbuilding and autonomy has drawn comparisons to industry leaders in aerospace and defense technology.
Saronic’s ability to attract top-tier investors underscores its strategic importance. Paul Kwan, Managing Director at General Catalyst, highlighted the role of unmanned systems as force multipliers in modern defense, stating: "The velocity and economics of warfare have fundamentally evolved. Saronic represents a paradigm shift for our maritime resilience. GC is proud to help Saronic transform our shipbuilding industry."
Joe Lonsdale, Founder of 8VC, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the company’s impact on national security: "Saronic goes toe to toe with any legendary company on its exceptional talent, intensity of effort, and mission-driven passion. It is critical to our national security and the future of the free world."
With its latest funding, Saronic is poised to accelerate production, expand partnerships, and redefine the future of naval defense.
