Siloton's Tech Aims to Transform AMD Monitoring and Save the NHS Millions

Siloton, on the precipice of raising £1 million in seed funding, has clinched an impressive £190,000 in a funding round

In a visionary leap forward, Bristol-based deep tech firm Siloton is pioneering a transformative at-home monitoring service for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), which is emerging as a predominant cause of eyesight loss in the UK. As AMD continues to afflict a growing number of individuals aged 60 and above, Siloton's innovative approach, combining hardware and cloud-based digital health tools, could not only reshape patient care but also potentially save the NHS an estimated half a billion pounds annually.

Age-related macular degeneration is a relentless eye disease, exacerbating with time and currently holding the top spot as the leading cause of severe vision loss in the UK's aging population. Siloton's at-home diagnostic imaging device, backed by state-of-the-art photonic chip technology, aims to revolutionize AMD care by introducing a proactive and convenient monitoring solution. This could alleviate the strain on healthcare systems while empowering patients to safeguard their eyesight more effectively.

In a significant stride towards realizing this groundbreaking vision, Siloton recently closed an investment round led by South East Angels, securing £190,000 in funding. This infusion of capital is set to propel the development and deployment of Siloton's core product. With plans to raise a total of £1 million in seed funding, this milestone follows a £470,000 investment garnered by the company last year, highlighting the growing recognition of Siloton's potential in the health-tech landscape.

Founded in 2020 by Euan Allen, Ben Hunt, and Alasdair Price, Siloton hails from the Quantum Technologies Enterprise Centre incubator program. At the heart of Siloton's revolutionary technology is a photonic integrated circuit (PIC), a marvel that condenses extensive and delicate optical components onto a surface smaller than a £1 coin. This advanced hardware, combined with cloud-based digital health tools, positions Siloton as a trailblazer in the intersection of technology and healthcare.

As South East Angels expresses enthusiasm for Siloton's positive impact and innovative approach, the stage is set for a transformative journey in healthcare technology. Siloton's at-home monitoring service has the potential to redefine AMD care, ushering in a new era of patient-centric solutions. Dr. Alasdair Price, CEO of Siloton, expresses excitement about the partnership with South East Angels, underscoring the collective commitment to positive impact and cutting-edge technology. This infusion of funding propels Siloton toward a future where its pioneering technology not only preserves eyesight but also contributes significantly to the evolution of healthcare practices on a global scale.
