Software AG Unveils €2.13B Deal with IBM to Transform Integration Landscape

The technological maestro of integration, harmonizing APIs, applications, data, B2B connections, and event coordination

In a groundbreaking move set to reshape the integration landscape, Software AG has just announced the strategic sale of its Super Integration-Platform-as-a-Service (iPaaS) business, webMethods, and StreamSets to tech giant IBM. The deal, valued at €2.13 billion, marks a significant milestone for both companies, ushering in a new era of AI-enabled integration solutions.

Launched in October 2023, Super iPaaS is not just a platform; it's a paradigm shift in the integration realm. Infused with artificial intelligence, it seamlessly blends APIs, applications, data, B2B, and events integration capabilities. The result? A powerhouse solution that fuels innovation, enhances agility, and elevates productivity and governance in the dynamic landscape of the modern hybrid enterprise.

Software AG's strategic moves have been turning heads. In 2023, the acquisition of StreamSets, a dataops platform, for €524 million set the stage for a series of transformative developments. Fast forward to today, and the sale of webMethods and StreamSets to IBM at €2.13 billion is not just a transaction; it's a validation of Software AG's forward-thinking strategy.

Sanjay Brahmawar, Software AG CEO, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "This transaction is a major validation of our strategy and a recognition of the products at the heart of our Super iPaaS vision." With IBM's global scale and a focus on hybrid cloud and AI, the future looks promising for Super iPaaS and the brilliant minds behind it.

For IBM, this acquisition is more than a deal; it's a strategic move to fortify its position in the realms of hybrid cloud and AI. Dinesh Nirmal, Senior Vice President, Products, IBM Software, emphasized the significance of integration solutions in the digital transformation journey. He stated, "Combined with IBM’s Watson AI and data platform, as well as its application modernization, data fabric, and IT automation products, StreamSets and webMethods will help clients unlock the full potential of their applications and data."

Assuming customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, Software AG anticipates completing the transaction in the second quarter of 2024. The collaboration between Software AG and IBM holds the promise of pushing the boundaries of integration technology, fostering innovation, and preparing businesses for the transformative era of AI.
