San Francisco-based Sourcetable has raised a $4.3 million seed round to support the launch of what it calls the world's first "self-driving spreadsheet" powered by artificial intelligence. The round was led by Bee Partners, with participation from Julien Chaumond (Hugging Face), Preston-Werner Ventures (GitHub), Roger Bamford (MongoDB), and James Beshara (Magic Mind).
Spreadsheets are used daily by an estimated 750 million people, yet only 20% know how to use formulas like VLOOKUP or build a pivot table. Sourcetable aims to close that gap by making complex analysis accessible to anyone—no coding or spreadsheet expertise required.
The company's AI-powered spreadsheet enables users to issue commands in natural language, either by typing or speaking, thanks to a new "autopilot" mode. Tasks like generating financial models, building pivot tables, cleaning messy data, or creating charts are handled automatically by the system, which can interpret instructions across tabs and datasets.
With its fresh seed funding, Sourcetable plans to continue developing its AI automation features and build toward a platform that supports AI agents. The new capital will also support hiring across product and engineering, and lay the foundation for integrations with third-party systems.
The long-term vision is to position Sourcetable not only as an autonomous spreadsheet tool, but as an operating system for AI-enabled business analysis. This includes enabling agent-to-agent workflows and real-time read/write interactions across data sources.
Founded by Eoin McMillan (CEO) and Andrew Grosser (CTO), Sourcetable began as a platform for technical professionals like SQL analysts and data scientists. Over time, the team realized the broader opportunity lay in democratizing spreadsheet intelligence for everyday users.
By shifting focus, Sourcetable increased engagement and reduced friction—leading to the development of its voice-powered autopilot and real-time AI evaluation engine, which ensures the reliability of multi-step operations.
The startup’s defining feature is its "vibe coding" experience, where users describe what they want in natural language, and the AI executes the task—hands-free if preferred. Unlike competitors locked into proprietary AI models, Sourcetable dynamically selects the best model for each task. This includes models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Groq, Meta, NVIDIA, Prior Labs, DeepSeek, and Hugging Face, allowing it to stay current with new releases.
"For decades, we’ve been stuck in a world with those who know Excel, and those who don’t. Not anymore," said Michael Berolzheimer of Bee Partners. "Now anyone, human or agent, can benefit from accurate, reliable data analysis."
Julien Chaumond, CTO of Hugging Face, added: "I've for a long time wished that one could multiply their productivity with AI. So when I got the opportunity to invest in such a product in Sourcetable I was excited to do it."
Sourcetable has raised funding from Bee Partners, Long Journey Ventures, NextView Ventures, Preston-Werner Ventures, and individual investors including Julien Chaumond and Lenny Rachitsky.
Early users, such as Simar Singh (Butternut AI) and Andrey Karmanov (Waterloo University), report major productivity improvements in analytics and forecasting workflows.
