SpecterOps, a cybersecurity company specializing in identity threat protection, has raised $75 million in Series B funding. The round was led by Insight Partners, with additional backing from Ansa Capital, M12, Ballistic Ventures, Decibel, and Cisco Investments.
The new funding marks a significant milestone for SpecterOps as it scales BloodHound Enterprise (BHE), its flagship platform designed to help organizations eliminate Identity-based Attack Paths — a security gap commonly found in Microsoft Active Directory (AD) and Azure AD environments.
With identity-based threats on the rise, companies are under growing pressure to secure the complex ecosystems managing user access. Active Directory — still used by over 90% of organizations for identity management — is a frequent target for attackers, yet many companies struggle to detect and address its vulnerabilities.
“Identity-based threats are growing, often due to the growing complexity of enterprise identity architectures, and enterprises need a proactive, dynamic approach to stay ahead,” said David McGuire, CEO of SpecterOps. “Our Attack Path Management methodology helps organizations manage identity risk by treating the identity ecosystem as a living, interconnected graph, continuously detecting and addressing attack paths.”
The Series B investment will primarily support faster development and adoption of BloodHound Enterprise, which helps companies identify and eliminate pathways attackers could exploit to gain unauthorized access. Launched in 2021, BHE has seen rapid customer adoption, with Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) doubling year-over-year in 2024. The customer base grew over 60% in Q4 2024, reaching nearly 200 companies.
Beyond product expansion, the funding will also enable growth in SpecterOps’ research, consulting, sales, and marketing teams, helping the company extend its Attack Path Management approach to new markets and industries.
SpecterOps was founded to give organizations adversary-level insight into their own vulnerabilities, enabling them to manage security risks through the same lens attackers use to identify weak points. The company’s expertise stems from its team’s deep roots in offensive security research and practical consulting engagements.
SpecterOps maintains BloodHound Community Edition, a widely used open-source tool originally created by its team to help penetration testers map attack paths in Active Directory. BloodHound has been downloaded more than 1.5 million times and is recommended by both Microsoft and CISA for Active Directory security assessments. The company has also delivered adversary simulation training to more than 7,000 security professionals and provided security assessments for over 185 organizations.
“Reducing identity security risks at the enterprise level requires an understanding of the adversary’s perspective, which the SpecterOps team knows deeply,” said Kevin Mandia, founder of Mandiant, General Partner at Ballistic Ventures, and Chair of SpecterOps’ Board of Directors.
In addition to Insight Partners, the Series B round saw continued support from previous investors including M12 (Microsoft’s venture fund), Ballistic Ventures, and Cisco Investments. This strong syndicate reflects growing confidence in SpecterOps’ ability to set new standards in identity risk management.
“Identities serve as the gateway to modern digital ecosystems, with bad actors constantly looking to exploit them,” said Thomas Krane, Managing Director at Insight Partners. “The SpecterOps team’s exceptional expertise — rooted in real-world attacker strategies and cutting-edge open-source innovation — is driving a transformative leap in identity-focused security.”
The funding caps off a milestone year for SpecterOps, which secured FedRAMP High Authorization for BloodHound Enterprise in December 2024, followed by CREST accreditation for its penetration testing services. The company also launched a channel partner program and expanded its leadership team, welcoming Kevin Mandia as Board Chair.
