Straiker, an AI-native security startup, has emerged from stealth mode with $21 million in funding, led by Lightspeed Ventures and Bain Capital Ventures. The company is focused on helping enterprises secure the next generation of AI systems—from internal AI apps to customer-facing agents—by addressing vulnerabilities across every layer of AI architecture.
The capital marks Straiker's initial funding round and reflects investor confidence in its mission to provide automated, AI-specific protection that can operate in real time. The round also positions the company to accelerate its product development and expand its go-to-market efforts.
As businesses shift from basic AI chatbots to fully autonomous agents, security risks have grown more complex. According to Straiker Co-founder and CEO Ankur Shah, "Enterprises are moving beyond simple AI chatbots to fully autonomous agents—but with this evolution comes an exponential rise in security and safety risks."
He adds that attack surfaces have expanded to include data exfiltration, supply chain infiltration, and adversarial manipulation of AI reasoning layers. “Straiker is the only AI-native platform that delivers real-time protection against attacks aimed at each layer of AI apps and Agents,” Shah explained.
The rise of AI-specific vulnerabilities has created an urgent need for solutions tailored to the AI stack. Straiker steps in with an approach built from the ground up for securing language models, autonomous agents, and hybrid applications.
Straiker's funding will support the rollout and enhancement of its initial two security modules—Ascend AI and Defend AI. Both tools are now generally available and are designed to secure both pre-deployment and runtime phases of AI applications.
Ascend AI simulates adversarial attacks to uncover latent risks in AI models and agents, providing insights for proactive mitigation. Defend AI, on the other hand, focuses on automated runtime threat blocking, delivering real-time protection for live environments. Together, they address the evolving threat landscape by combining simulation and active defense.
The company also plans to expand its platform to support the full lifecycle of AI development, including third-party integrations. The funding will enable Straiker to grow its research team, strengthen its AI engine, and accelerate go-to-market partnerships.
Founded by a team of experienced AI and cybersecurity professionals, Straiker is positioning itself as a first-mover in the emerging field of AI-native security. The startup’s STAR team (Security, Threat, and Adversarial Research) investigates the latest threats targeting language models and autonomous agents, continually updating Straiker’s threat intelligence.
At the core of the platform is the Straiker AI Engine, which uses multiple finely tuned models to analyze intelligence from every layer of an AI stack—from users and agents to identity and data flows. This multi-layered approach enables precise assessments with low latency, preserving application performance while strengthening security.
Straiker has already attracted enterprise customers across fintech, enterprise software, and telecom sectors. CISOs from companies like People AI, Coupa, Enterprise DB, and DirecTV credit Straiker with enhancing their AI security posture.
In addition to support from Lightspeed and Bain, Straiker has garnered praise from seasoned investors and operators.
"The AI Age requires someone to rethink security and take an AI-native approach fundamentally," said Arif Janmohammed, Partner at Lightspeed Ventures. "We couldn't be more pleased with the progress the all-star Straiker team has made in such a short time."
Enrique Salem, Partner at Bain Capital Ventures, added: “I have been in the industry for the last 5 decades as an operator and investor. I have never been more excited about cyber as I am now with AI.”
