Totem, the Tennessee-based startup behind the viral Totem Compass, has secured $1.3 million in pre-seed funding to support its rapid expansion. The round was backed by a group of angel investors from around the world, reinforcing the company’s momentum in reshaping festival technology.
With soaring demand for its screen-free, peer-to-peer tracking device, the fresh capital will allow Totem to increase production capacity, streamline supply chain operations, and expand its internal team. The company aims to meet the growing interest from music festival attendees and outdoor adventurers worldwide.
The festival industry is experiencing record-breaking attendance, with 2024 seeing unprecedented numbers of festival-goers. Totem has positioned itself at the forefront of this trend, capturing widespread attention with the Totem Compass, a real-time tracking device that works without Wi-Fi, cellular networks, or apps. The device operates on the proprietary Unity Mesh Network™ and GNSS technology, ensuring seamless connectivity, even in crowded environments.
Since launching in October 2024, Totem has already shipped more than 20,000 devices to customers in over 60 countries, fueled by $1.5 million in verified pre-orders. Its virality on social media—generating over 125 million organic views—has propelled it into a dominant position in the festival tech space.
The newly raised funds will be used to scale production and enhance logistics, ensuring Totem can keep up with demand. The company is also preparing to launch a companion product for the Totem Compass in March 2025, further expanding its ecosystem.
Looking ahead, Totem plans to raise a Seed Round in Q2 2025, leveraging increasing investment interest as it moves toward broader market expansion. The company is also developing a suite of accessories to allow users to personalize their devices.
Founded in early 2024, Totem is dedicated to transforming the way people connect at large-scale events. The startup believes “no one deserves to be lost,” guiding its mission with four core values: Love, Unity, Simplicity, and Beauty.
Totem’s innovative approach has already attracted a strong global following, solidifying its place as a key player in event technology. As CEO Carter Fowler puts it, “This pre-seed round serves as further evidence that Totem is not just a company—it is a movement that unites people around the world..”
