Twin1 AI has come out of stealth mode with $20 million in seed funding and a product built around a simple idea: instead of replacing what professionals know, AI should help them share it. Founded by Dr. Lewis Z. Liu, Tom Cahn, Huiting Liu, and Dr. Jonathan Budd, the company creates AI-powered digital twins for individual workers. Liu and Cahn are repeat entrepreneurs who previously co-founded Eigen Technologies, an AI document processing company.
The market they are entering is growing fast. The generative AI market for enterprise knowledge management and search was valued at roughly $6.2 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow at a compound annual rate of nearly 29 percent through 2031, according to Mordor Intelligence. Companies now rely on well over a hundred different software tools, each storing a different piece of corporate knowledge, and employees spend a significant part of their day just searching for the right information or the right person to ask. Most AI tools try to solve this by pulling all that data into one centralized system. Twin1 takes a different approach, keeping knowledge tied to the individual who created it and letting that person decide what gets shared.
The seed round was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners, and Aramco Ventures. Additional participants include EJF Ventures, Tin Alley Ventures, AGI House Ventures, Neo, F-Prime, Btech Consortium, Antiportfolio Ventures, Lakestar, Notion Capital, Insiders, and a strategic investment from law firm Orrick. Angel investors in the round include Dawn Capital co-founder Haakon Overli, Wiz co-founder Roy Reznick, Notable Capital Managing Partner Hans Tung, former McKinsey Senior Partner Kevin Buehler, climate tech investor Robert Trezona, and former Macquarie Capital Global Co-head Dan Wong.
Over the past two years, enterprise AI tools have evolved from basic search and summarization toward what analysts call agentic workflows, meaning systems that can retrieve, draft, classify, and route information on their own. But a core problem has remained unsolved. Much of what an organization knows lives inside people, not documents. It sits in a senior lawyer's judgment about a client relationship, or in a project lead's understanding of how a deal came together. When that person leaves or is simply unavailable, the knowledge often disappears with them.
"Enterprise knowledge has become increasingly fragmented, creating real friction in how organizations access and use expertise. Twin1 AI is building an individual-first context layer that allows users to extend their knowledge across teams and systems. We believe this represents an important shift in how AI can be applied to knowledge work while preserving control and ownership." — Elliott Robinson, Partner at Bessemer Venture Partners
Privacy and trust are particularly sensitive issues for companies in regulated industries like law and finance. Twin1 says it addresses this with six interlocking layers of governance, combining rules-based and AI-based controls that manage both person-to-person and person-to-AI interactions. These controls enforce enterprise policies, inherited permissions, and human approval before any information is shared.
The funding will go toward hiring across the company's San Mateo, California, and London offices, investing in go-to-market efforts, and continuing to develop the core product. Twin1 has already been working with customers for over a year across three industries: legal, financial services, and energy.
On the legal side, clients include Linklaters, Orrick, and Dechert. Customers Bank uses the platform in financial services, and Aegis Energy is a client in the energy sector. According to the company, customers report that the platform automates 30 to 50 percent of the communications work done by knowledge workers. That includes routine tasks like gathering information, coordinating across teams, and responding to internal questions.
"Twin1 is the purest expression of the coordination layer we believe will define the next generation of enterprise AI. It transforms fragmented human knowledge into trusted organizational intelligence, allowing people and AI agents to coordinate securely and make better decisions together." — Brian Hirsch, Co-Founder and Partner at Tribeca Venture Partners
Twin1 was founded in 2025 and is headquartered in San Mateo, with a second office in London. CEO Dr. Lewis Z. Liu holds a doctorate in atomic and laser physics from the University of Oxford. His previous company, Eigen Technologies, served major banks including Goldman Sachs and ING and was later acquired.
In practical terms, each person in an organization gets their own digital twin: an AI model trained on their emails, meetings, documents, and activity across tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive, and SharePoint. That twin keeps learning over time. It can answer questions and take action on the person's behalf, but the person stays in control of what the twin can access and share. Nothing is shared without permission.
"In every knowledge organization, the human is the atomic unit of knowledge. The opportunity with AI is not to flatten people’s expertise into generic output, but to connect and amplify their unique knowledge, judgment and context. Our belief is that AI should work for people, not be done to them. Twin1 gives every professional a digital twin that preserves and amplifies their knowledge, judgment and voice, while keeping privacy, permissions, and human agency at the core. We are building a future where expertise compounds, rather than collapses into the average." — Dr. Lewis Liu, Co-Founder and CEO of Twin1 AI
Beyond individual twins, the platform includes what the company calls the Twin Network, a governed layer that lets twins communicate with each other, find the right people, and coordinate work across an organization while respecting each person's privacy settings. There is also an enterprise MCP server that allows third-party AI agents and enterprise tools to access governed context from the network. Twin1 supports SaaS, single-tenant, and private-cloud deployment, which matters for heavily regulated enterprises that need their data and governance policies under their own control.
The $20 million round was co-led by Bessemer Venture Partners, Tribeca Venture Partners, and Aramco Ventures. Several investors in this round had also backed the founders' previous company, Eigen Technologies.
"Serving the world’s largest and most highly regulated enterprises requires far more than checking the standard security and compliance boxes. The Twin1 team of repeat founders combines a deep understanding of how these organizations operate and their AI governance needs with the experience required to make AI work in the enterprise." — Daniel Carter, Managing Director of Aramco Ventures US
Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, one of Twin1's law firm customers, also participated in the round as a strategic investor. Wendy Butler Curtis, Chief Innovation Officer at Orrick, described Twin1 as one of the most exciting developments in legal practice today, citing its potential to enhance client advice and make practicing law more interesting.
