Experience seamless connectivity from Punta Cana to Puerto Rico with Telxius' latest submarine cable route extension
May 1, 2024

Telxius, a global leader in connectivity solutions, has announced the launch of a cutting-edge submarine cable route connecting Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic to Puerto Rico. This state-of-the-art cable, now in service from April 2024, is set to significantly enhance connectivity in the Caribbean region.

The new cable provides a vital link between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico, facilitating seamless connectivity not only to the U.S. but also to the wider Latin American region. By integrating with the Brusa, PCCS, and SAm-1 cables, Telxius expands its international network, ensuring ultra-high-capacity connectivity for the Caribbean and the Americas.

"This new route underscores Telxius’ dedication to advancing technology and enabling digital transformation," said Mario Martín, CEO at Telxius. "Our developments across the region are driven by growing customer demand and new opportunities to support local and global enterprises, and we are continually evolving our capabilities to better serve the needs of our customers in this fast-growing market. This new route will accelerate digital transformation in key regions, allowing them to fully participate in today’s digital economy."

The extension of the SAm-1 cable represents a significant milestone for Telxius, marking the first public cable covering this route with such high capacity. It not only expands Telxius’ network capabilities but also bridges the gap between the Caribbean and the Americas, providing ultra-high-capacity connectivity.

By leveraging this advanced infrastructure, enterprises in the Dominican Republic can expect improved connectivity, facilitating smoother communication, commerce, and collaboration both regionally and globally. The investment in this extension demonstrates Telxius’ commitment to meeting the evolving demands of global connectivity.

Telxius’ extensive network includes eight next-generation fiber optic submarine cables and terrestrial backhauls spanning more than 100,000km. The Telxius ecosystem accelerates how enterprises, OTTs, carriers, and service providers connect their customers, partners, and platforms across the globe. With a wide range of capacity, colocation, security services, and direct internet connectivity through its Tier-1 IP network, Telxius provides connectivity solutions tailored to meet the needs of businesses worldwide.
